Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v Ireland: 1st ODI
The continued inclusion of Vusi Sibanda in the one day side is disconcerting, especially to bat in the middle order. Aren't they the ones who are supposed to rotate strike well, which Vusi doesn't, let alone against the slower bowlers.
Which again brings one to the decision to bat himself at four in Intercontinental games. What's the point, when he will most likely open on Zimbabwe's return to Test Cricket? He has no chance of batting in a strong middle order of Craig Ervine, Sean William and Taibu, even if Sean Ervine does not return. The logic is mind boggling.
Today's middle order wobble also shows how badly we need Williams for South Africa. Taibu is batting at three is an indication: the lineup is weak; its short of another top order batsman or two. Get back Williams NOW!

Sibanda is lucky to be in the side at all, let alone in the middle order. He is an opener or nothing.

That's a lovely pic! Great effort by Rainsford, hope this is that performance that seals his place in the side. He deserves an extended run. Very important knocks by Taibu and Chigumbura as well, and not to forget Mpofu and Cremer with the ball.maehara wrote:Ed Rainsford celebrates scoring the winning runs. Image from ZC.

Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v Ireland: 1st ODI
I certainly wish i'd had a wad of cash on Ed Rainsford hitting a 6
Great win, too many mess ups with the bat but this side now know how to fight
As a Rhino fan i'd say Taylor, Cremer and Rainsford are certainties for selection, Sibanda is another matter though, he just doesn't seem to have the appetite for the limited overs stuff and is likely to be rolled over by SA with ease, do Vusi and the side a favour and keep him back for the Test return
Well done to Brendan Taylor yesterday as he passed the 2901 of Heath Streak to become the 4th highest ODI run scorer for Zim, just a way to go to reach the top 3

I see Vusi going the Matsi way if he does not improve . No poor performances will be able to convince the selectors to pick him

I would prefer to see Chibhabha in that slot or LambFlower power wrote:I see Vusi going the Matsi way if he does not improve . No poor performances will be able to convince the selectors to pick him

Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v Ireland: 1st ODI

Why is there a microphone for the interview with Rainsford (why is there an interview at all?) if the series is not being broadcast? The only thing I can think of is that it was through the loud speakers at the ground...
Anyway, congratulations to Ed Rainsford - a fine effort off the final ball

That result is a little bit too close for comfort, hopefully in the next match Zim can put up a better show with the bat.
