[Match Thread] Zimbabwe v Ireland: 2nd ODI

Post by maehara »

Zimbabwe v Ireland: 2nd ODI
Harare Sports Club, 28 September 2010

Wunderground Weather sticker

Zimbabwe: Elton Chigumbura (capt), Graeme Cremer, Chamu Chibhabha, Charles Coventry, Craig Ervine, Greg Lamb, Hamilton Masakadza, Shingi Masakadza, Chris Mpofu, Ray Price, Ed Rainsford, Vusi Sibanda, Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor, Prosper Utseya

Ireland: William Porterfield (captain), Andre Botha, George Dockrell, Allan Eastwood (Pembroke), Trent Johnston, Nigel Jones, John Mooney, Kevin O'Brien, Niall O'Brien (wkt), Andrew Poynter, Paul Stirling, Albert Van De Merwe, Andrew White, Gary Wilson (wkt).

Hopefully a little less nailbiting than the first match; Zim will I suspect be hoping to make a few changes to strengthen their side; Ireland need at least one win from the series to keep their lead over Zim in the ODI rankings, so no shortage of motivation for them either.

Problem for Zim would be who to drop. Rainsford has clearly earned his place; if Greg Lamb's available, I'd drop Sibanda for him. Who to lose for Price is a little tricker - probably Utseya. Chip in with your 2c here...

The team for the first ODI was very weak. As for the changes, I would go for:

1. Chamu for Vusi
2. Price for Utseya / Lamb for Utseya - if Price is not fit (Hard decision to leave Utseya, but that seems to be the only sensible choice)

Even better, Get Williams in...

Chigumburas attrocious bowling ( for zim at least) means the whole balance of the side has been upset. With chigumbura and a lone fast bowler (mpofu) zim could fit the 3 spinners in..The rise of eddy rainsford has given the selectors a headache..Who to drop and who to replace

i think its important we play at least 3 pace bowlers all the time,we'l need them in SA maybe 4
chigumbura needs to do more too many games he has struggled to bowl 5overs batting at 7
it makes no sense him just bowling 2 overs.
lamb yes can bowl but him replacing utseya doesn't make sense for me coz utseya is a bowler lamb is supposed to be
a batter who can bowl.so on some occassions u won't get the overs from lamb like wat elton is doing so for us to get
2 bowlers like that is dangerous.unless we ave a situiation were we ave them bowl 5 overs each
sibanda can't bat in middle order.
we had enough batters but 200 was like 2000
1 hamilton
2 taylor
3 taibu
4 ervine
5 coventry
6 elton
7 prosper
8 cremer
9 rainsford
10 price
11 mpofu

chibhabha-injured
lamb- injured
sibanda
nicholson
masakadza
mire

One change for Zim: Sean Williams replaces Vusi Sibanda; for Ireland, Botha returns, replacing Jones.
