ZC Upgrading Cricket Venues

Post by maehara »

Fresh off the PR mailing list:
ZC is carrying out renovations on the facilities at Harare Sports Club (HSC) and Mutare Sports club (MSC) grounds in a bid to increase the seating capacity and maintain world class playing facilities.

The project at HSC is expected to be completed before the start of the domestic Twenty20 series which is earmarked for the month of November.

The capacity of the ground will increase as result of elevated grass embankments which are being constructed at the east end of the ground. The area will be able to accommodate easy chairs, sun decks and private braai stands that will allow spectators to explore the different game viewing options.

In addition to the embankment at HSC, are plans to install floods lights, which will allow for day and night matches to be played during the Twenty20 tournament and other international fixtures.

Meanwhile, Mutare Sports Club is going through refurbishing of the playing field and the training nets field. Reconstruction work is being done on relaying the outfield with Kikuyu grass, the sort that is universally used on most cricket grounds in world over. This is an essential process owing to the fact that the outfield was gradually becoming rough and slow. The old training nets made of artificial turf are also are being replaced by a new layer of turf.

Does Harare need extra capacity? Always seems to be plenty of spare seats.

If I were to speculate at the thinking, they're hoping that day/night matches will bring out larger crowds - vast majority of matches at HSC are played during the working week, which limits the audience, and ICC rules about spacing between matches means you usually can only get one match in per weekend.

Put the lights up, evenings become usable, and you get a bigger crowd after close of business.

Either that, or the embankment is replacing the temporary stands they use, up to a point, making it more additional permanent capacity rather than genuinely new.

Let's hope they can get some lights up, and a steady supply of electricity.

Belive me those guys have the cash .ZC practically has a battery of sponsors that are willing to ride on the revival wave length.Compared with other sports in Zim it is the only sport sponsors can get a chance to gain some mileage.

Flodlights at Harare Sports Club! Now that is cool, and the thing with evening matches it becomes a hang out joint so even people who don't enjoy cricket will come for the atmosphere. I am sooo loving this! Are there any games in December/January
