I'm hoping hard that Alistair Campbell is not planning on picking his mate Grant Flower for the World Cup in February. I said it before the tour started and I will say it again, "Grant Flower will have no impact whatsoever on the team as a player" I'd bet my last money that he'll not go past 30 runs and won't take more than two wickets. Retire gracefully Gobbs!
Zimbabwe seem to be getting it right with the bat, but they need to work on the ball a bit. They trying to rush their overs and using too many bowlers. They need to focus on a good lot of 5 or 6 and train them in and out.
Not a bad performance by Zim. SA are not our benchmark. They are Test top table, they will, now and for the next 10 years beat us, even when resting a few top players. All we ask for is good performances, whcih battingwise we are getting. Bangladesh, WI & NZ are Test nations we should aim to be playing & beating. I would love to see how we would do in a 4 team tournament with them. Other thoughts: there was a time when Williams looked like he might be the real thing, not any more. Grant Flower presence or absence is close to irrelevant, i favoured the experiment of bringing him back, not for the tons he would obviously not score nor the 5fors he obviously won´t take (like the others competing for his place) , but his professionalism&hoped-for inspiration - i say its irrelevant because our problem isnt mediocre all rounders, its a lack of bowlers!
Commendable perfomance from zimbabwe, setting team records and upping them as well , good knocks from the top four though all not at the same time , they did not get bowled out either , recovered nicely , pity though the bowling isnt as one would like it to be...if zim play sa more like bang play pak sri lanka and ind they will defiinately become competitve , its not enough to be used as punching bags before major tournaments...
...good to see Grant back, what Zimbabwe needs is the return of another couple of players that wiill make us the lovers of cricket to welcome without an reservation and put behind the political upheaval that has been dominating Zimbabwe.
One more point, SA, please get rid of these batting friendly tracks before Indians come there, and replace them with good old pacy and bouncy tracks we are used to in SA. Otherwise you are asking for trouble...
