Good score albeit very disappointing to see our mainline batsmen under perform once again. I've never been a big fan of Chigumbura coming in at 5 (6 or 7 should be the position) but today he was well setup, batting after the 30th over. Can't say more on Tibba and Ervine, very solid partnership, which is probably going to be key in our success at this world cup. Cremer and Utseya once again, reliable, against Oz it was a 49 run partnership, they did it again today with 41.
We should look to bowl Canada out for less than 200, NRR might be crucial.

i wonder how the bowling change will affect Chris, last time around he started well but didn't have a good comeback.

Good win for zim, well done. Nice to see Craig Ervine get some form back as well as taibu. Chigumbura is becomng a walking wicket which is worrying, He is just not contributing or Charles coventry. maybe get duffin in next match for a more solid dependable opening partner for taylor. I think the way coventry plays might inhibit taylor as he doesnt really stick around so Taylor is quite defensive

Solid win, though Taylor and Coventry should be filthy with themselves for not each scoring 150.
The bowling was pretty much faultless. Unlike the Australia game the fielding wasn't as good as it could be, also some questionable field placements by Chigumbura. We could have put the nail in the coffin when Canada were about 85 or so, but instead pushed the field back and brought Williams on instead of Price (which I still find puzzling - it was a golden opportunity to attack). Ultimately it was a good confidence booster ahead of Friday's must win match. The New Zealand game is probably the game of the series for Zimbabwe - win and the next round is seriously on the cards, lose and it's probably no more than a mathematical possibility.
I still would like to see the selectors persevere with Coventry.

He seems to be finding different ways to get out in varying matches. I would love to see him prove me wrong against New zealand friday providing he is picked. I worry about a top order collapse against New zealand, You wont have Canada's mottly crew of dobbers which Taibu and Ervine got away you will have people like Vettori who is very dangerous.jimbo wrote:I still would like to see the selectors persevere with Coventry.
Of course not detracting from Zim's performance today, it was a very Proffesional well deserved win, Good on ya boys

Coventry should not be in the side.
Great win all the same. Canada are not a bad side. We are far better.

This was a solid win. We should have scored more runs but a win is a win. It is our first World Cup victory in 8 years! Chigumbura has no place in this side - he can't bat or bowl and his captaincy is nothing special. The Coventry experiment really doesn't seem to be working - perhaps he is better down the order? Taylor also has to step up - he is supposedly our best batsmen yet he remains very inconcsistent. We cannot afford a top order collapse against NZ.

I think Taylor was affected psychologically by hamiltons axing. I honestly thought our opening partnership was set. The real bomb came when Taylor heard that Coventary was the replacement. (heck even coventary was shocked) i think coventary is not technically sound or has the temprement to open.
