Openers failing
Re: Openers failing
everyones so biased in this forum,
a guy called chappie coventry wants coventry to be the long term opener,
zimfanatic wants matsi, as he does in every post,
we've seen waves of obsessions with meth and panyangara........
and others on this forum just want gus mackay to mak a comeback.....but thats rreasonable because he is a true talent and at 46 is still in his prime to lead the attack.

well If you can still get em to bend like you used to for OG's then don't see why not lolZIMDOGGY wrote:everyones so biased in this forum,

On another note though playing across the line after having seen from the non-strikers end the good ball that got BT out..begs the question on the validity of his application as an opening batter.Would've thought cricketing logic wud've made him look to play a bit straighter earlier on to give him a chance.
As a team they should work with what they have at the WC not who they left out although it does show you don't experiment at the WC..lesson learnt

Re: Openers failing
1. Before the WC, CC couldnt even make the team.
2. His stats show that he hasnt scored any runs to warrent selection.(statistically what are the odds that CC can repeat his 194)
3. He doesnt even open for his Franchise.
4. This is pure gambling, feja feja, chabuta, lotto buy your ticket and hope for the best. With odds of 1 to a million.
This has spot fixing written all over it.
I seriously dont thnk the team were happy with this selection. We will hear about their true feelings about this later.
In the meantime with ample video data available top class bowlers will set chappie up easily and they can be guaranteed a wicket b4 he scores 20.
All this being said, this is CC chance to prove himself and have the last laugh. But i am not holding my breath

Re: Openers failing
He really isn't that good at all
I like thR guy, I want himto do well, but to be honest the guy is a number ten batsman
In a test team through and through.
I like the fact he has a dig and dont take crap from anyone at the crease, but you even have to look at his technique to seewhat I mean.
He doesn't even make runs for matabeleland.
People are saying about how much potential he has but I don't see it. He averages 20 withe bat and that's gainst a lit of associates and includes his world record, which was magic but people are clinging onto that memory.
Which leads me onto that innings, he was dropped three times, was on a batting wicket against rubbish bowling on a small field. He played well but all those factors are what led to that innings, it was a once in a lifetime mix of intent, favorable conditions and sheer pot luck. My guess us he averages around 18 when you take that innings out.
Sorry for the typos in this post, I'm blind drunk.
Bauhaus what you mean by spot fixing??
Did you know the icc are investigating the aus v zim match for spot fixing?

No, it doesn't. Spot fixing involves ensuring certain things happen at certain times, and I don't think Coventry has the skill to ensure any such thing (short of losing his own wicket, anyway).bayhaus wrote:This has spot fixing written all over it.

Re: Openers failing
I watched the game against Australia and Coventry really struggled against the pace of Brett Lee, jumping around the crease and poking at the ball. Although he did play a beautiful cover drive for four and an amazing square drive six off Lee. Taylor looked okay, as did Taibu, who both have compact techniques and have played bowlers of that pace in the past whereas Coventry wouldn't have faced much of the 140km/h + bowling. You can understand why the selectors gave Coventry the job as, they need the team to get off to a flier as it is unlikely with the bowlers other than Price, Cremer and Utseya that a mediocre total could be defended. Yes Duffin could be opening but that would be going back to the Kevin Curran days of playing for respectability rather than to win. Personally I would have stuck with Masakadaza (he has been making bucket loads of runs in the domestic comp) or even Chibhaba who is solid against pace. Still disappointed M Waller isn't on the tour.
Chigumburas form is more of a concern I would have thought?

Re: Openers failing
Spot fixing in the sense that the opening spot was fixed how else do u explain the decision to take a batsmen from the blue and experiment at THE WORLD CUP! Fix the opening spot "spot fixing" so that zim does not get a good start.
Zim vs Aus spot fixing?! Zim threw away wickets?
