[Match Thread] Pakistan v Zimbabwe (CWC Group A)

Pakistan v Zimbabwe
Pallekele, 14 March 2011

Our last chance of reaching the quarter-finals - lose this, and we're going home, regardless of the result against Kenya. Even if we win, I think run-rate may come into it and deny us a place, but we'll worry about that if it happens.

Taylor's talking up our chances, and Pakistan have injury problems. They're also Pakistan, so you can never be quite sure who's going to turn up - we want the Pakistan that turned up against Canada and New Zealand, not the one that turned out against Kenya.

And as ever, "if our batsmen can perform..."

Kenya are such, that even the Pakistan team that turned up against them could have been miles better than the ones that showed up against Canada and New Zealand.

Regis Chakabva's entry to the top of the order provided a perfect foil for Taylor against Sri Lanka as the pair added 116 within the first 20 overs, so with his position fixed the main change could come with dropping Tinashe Panyangara, who conceded 51 from six wicketless overs and recalling Charles Coventry to slot into the middle order where he has had success in the past.

Ya better, much more powerful towards the end of the innings since Chigumbura is constantly failing

If Vusi is going to bat it should be opening. He's got a far better technique than Brendan Taylor, but is much more reserved and probably has more patience than Chagabva

Vusi is simply a more accomplished player than Chakabva, period, despite the fact that he is a particularly vulnerable starter. Sibanda's record in franchise cricket, in all forms of the game, over the last 2 years, is vastly superior to Chakabva's, that doesn't happen by accident...
