Pace ace Jarvis is Burwell's new weapon

Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League batsmen will need their helmets done up tight as Burwell prepare to unleash lightning-quick opening bowler Kyle Jarvis.

Grant Flower, who left Mingay Park to take up a coaching role in his homeland at the end of last season, recommended his fellow Zimbabwean to Burwell captain Mark Bissett.

And the skipper is excited by the prospect of seeing Jarvis, who has nine one-day international caps to his name, striking fear into opponents with the new ball.

"He looks very, very quick," said Bissett, whose side entertain Swardeston tomorrow. "We’re really looking forward to seeing what he can do and hopefully he’ll be able to make some early inroads."

Opening batsman Peter Richer and all-rounder Will Lawton have both been recruited from Sawston, while Cambridge MCCU wicketkeeper Dean Bell has also signed, although he will concentrate on batting, with Paul Summerskill continuing to keep wicket.

Burwell finished seventh in their first Premier League campaign and the captain, who will hand over the reins to Daniel Jones for the first two weeks due to a holiday and subsequent eye operation, is looking for another good showing.

"We were pleased with finishing seventh and we competed against all the sides, apart from the top two, Granta and Walden," said Bissett.

"We know we’re not going to win the league, but we want to build on last year and be competitive in every game."

Great to see that Jarvis is playing again. Once he has a season of cricket under his belt he will be ready to be Zimbabwe's leading strike bowler and make us forget about the current trundlers we have.

We are filling up our domestic teams with englishmen while English cricket fills its teams with South Africans and Zimabweans - interesting.

The kid's hardly ever covered himself in glory. He's got close to no control and is seriously expensive. Not to mention his non existent first class experience. You all expect too much from him. If he gets in the side ahead of guys like Trevor Garwe, Brian Vitori and Njabulo Ncube (Not even mentioning Chatara, Nicholson, Meth, Lewis, Rainsford, Mpofu and Panyangara) it will be too obviously political.

the thing with jarvis is he has a famous dad, is unbeliebvably fast, and is very good looking (dont laugh, this brings in the female crowd and helps get a player selected).

he stands out.
