Chigs was a shit captain and his form died.

I look forward to the return of the old chigs.

Assuming they do not want a steady, old, head like Matsi as captain it has to be Tatenda.

Heaven help me agreeing with that Zimdoggy troll.

At least Matsi's form wouldn't suffer if he was appointed captain. Its not like he could score any less runs than he usually does.

More rumours... http://www.newzimbabwe.com/sports-5084- ... ports.aspx
This time it says Chigumbura will stay on as Twenty20 captain but won't lead the team in Tests or ODIs.

Maybe that's the solution right there. 3 captains for 3 different formats of the game
Elton for t20s
Taylor for odes
Taibu for tests

Like they say
Different strokes for different folks.

Ps. Do we really need a captain in the true sense? Can't we have butcher relieving some if te pressure

- Flower & Campbell against Eltons captaincy
- Elton had no intention to quit.
- Elton pressured 2 quit even makes comments about how captaincy affected performance.
- Elton now back as captain.
THIS STINKS OF POLITICS! Not good for team morale at all and ZC is to blame shame on them.

Good doctor, I trust you like myself do indulge in some holy water from time to time. What's your favorite brew or rather what's the top brew out there in that section of the orient? On this particular one, I doubt it was wise to overindulge!

I'll translate into Aussie English:

Regarding captaincy, generally the current developments indicate a shift towards focusing on the future with, apart from performance, youth & longevity as the underlying factors. Which discounts Price. Take for example Aus, Eng and soon SA & NZ.

We also don't want to find ourselves in the embarassing situation of the WI who pick a captain who is not genuinely a forseeable regular performer in the team for any format. In that respect I don't think any of us has full confidence that any of our top&middle order batsmen (Hammie & Taylor included) will deliver and consistently at that , so they are open to being dropped or finding themselves often in-and-out of the team. Which renders them unsuitable for a choice of captain at this stage before we even play our first Test in over 5 years if I'm correct.

That means the only player who can get away with average performances and still maintain his place in the team is Taibu. The good part is he won't be a desperate choice, but a tried and tested one. The fact is he has never been a top order batsmen, neither from his entry into cricket nor since, so our expectations of his performances cannot carry the same weight as the other batsmen - hence the standard to which he must drop before we consider replacing him. All the more reason why I have never placed him above batting at seven. No doubt I(or we, I hope) have full confidence in his abilities and that he will deliver, perhaps exceeding all other batsmen.

No other player in international cricket brightens me more than Price. He gets on well with everyone - the umpires, teammates as well as the opposition. Sometimes he displays aggression but it's controlled and friendly, and more often than not it brings out respect more so than intimidation on the part of the facing batsman (him v Younis Khan, and virtually all umpires in our WC games being recent examples). He's ever happy and positive, taking it easy but never waivering in his standards. For a man in the twilight of his career, it would be very sad to see him being forced into a role where he has to be concerned about bowling changes, field placings, over-rates, guiding bowlers, the media and most of all impatient fans who are unappreciative. Spare this wonderful man the trouble. His career deserves an untainted legacy. Next to Houghton, Andy, Heath & Brandes - he's my all time best.

In fairness, to your defense Dr_Situ, I suppose there can be exceptions if you consider the choice of the SL rapist, in comparison to your preference for Price; and the Davis Cup/Ryder Cup-style choice of the Ashes conqueror, in comparison to Coventry. Elton can be captain of the T20 side in my opinion. It's a form of the game that I personally couldn't be bothered about. But in all honesty you can't fault his suitability for that form of the game. As a batmen when he gets in he can be as distructive as any other cricketer out there and his economy rate just as awful as most of them. He has the experience of being a captain so with a lightened load and ultimately less overall pressure on his shoulders, he will start to enjoy himself more and perfom like his old self.

I still think that Ray Price is the best choice. We are always talking about building for the future but never focusing on the present. Price has a couple of years left in him and would be a good bridge to a long term captain such as Craig Ervine. If Price is unwilling, as some think he is, I think Taibu is really the only other option.
