test pace bowlers your choice

Post by jimbo »

How would you complement cremer/price and our batsmen

Would it be

Rainsford/Mpofu/jarvis
Shingarai/Chatara/meth

Lots of different combinations apply but whats yours???

Three pace bowlers please what would be your pick bearing in mind Butcher and co are working with up to 14 pacemen to get them ready to the rigours of test match cricket

Didn't Ricky rainsford suffer a career threatening injury not long ago?

If that's true, then talking in test terms, hes cooked. If he isn't then he's going to need slot of time to get to his best, which unfortunately isn't likely to be as good as his previous best.

On topic I would have Meth in the current chigumbura role. Meth isn't as good a bat as Elton but is a better bowler ATM. The other would be mpofu. He has been our best the last year. If we go another paceman id throw it to chitara I guess?

My picks would have to be based on what job the bowler is ment to do. You need a outright fast man to pick up wickets, or 2 if you have the quality. For me i would have Chatara in as the wicket taker. Then you need the strong workhorse type player that can bowl economically form one end and allow your strike bowlers to rotate on the other side. We normally do this with a spinner but i would like to have Mpofu do the job. I do have my doubts as to how many overs he could bowl in a day, he doesn't have the most robust build, Gym time anyone?? And lastly i would have a change up bowler one that is a bit of both takes wickets but an't go for too many runs. Meth i think would be a good one to try, he has the batting side as well in his favor. His lack of pace is a problem but give him a go and see what he does on the big stage. If i fails then you can always fall back on Shingarai or Jarvis to do the job. No Nicolson in your reckoning i see. Just beacuse he got carted against SA doesn't mean he should be written off.

I would go with Chatara, Rainsford/Mpofu and Meth. Chatara for pace, Meth for control then either Rainsford/Mpofu as the workhorse, if he is fit it will have to be Rainsford because he can swing it and is quicker.

1 - Mpofu
2 - Chatara (though have never seen the lad)/ Jarvis
3 - Tinashe "Wild Card"Panyangara

i think it was unfortunate that Nicholson debuted against an inform SA, IN SA, on a tiny pitch in Benoni surely if he was gud enough to get a call up against South Africa he should have been given a decent run.

By the way who are the 14? How about a list?

My pick would be Jarvis, Chitara, Nicolson and maybe Tawanda Mupariwa (most underated bowler in the country)

If we had active veterans i would like to see Bryan Strang ,Brighton Watambwa for expirience or the dreadlocked one Pommie

Mbangwa was never a test bowler - he kept shit tight in limited overs and that was his skill. He is very similar to mpariwa.

And please- panyangara should never be let near the national team again. At least unless something changes dramatically. I wouldn't have him in my top ten zim pacemen.

That's not fair on Panyangara,
He came up against some good sides, and in all honesty, he didn't bowl badly! he just was bowling against some very good batters. His pace was up, and he had the willingness to bowl fuller rather than shorter

Yeah, who could forget Blignaut's awful last match.
