Ya they’ve fudged a few things for him. They haven’t been silly enough to name him in a squad and try to pull the wool over the ICC’s eyes however.
Zimbabwe Constitution only allows dual citizenship for citizens by birth only. If you attaining citizenship by registration you have to renounce foreign citizenship.Googly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 3:37 pmSince when did renunciation of other citizenships be a factor?
It was about 30 years ago, but I believe it was changed.
You can get an investor's passport/citizenship as well so that 10 year requirement is no longer relevant either.
My guess is that the issue is he hasn't completed his 3 year residency, which is an ICC requirement.
I don't know what that entails-
Is it 3 years in total or is it 6 months and 1 day per year?
Prepared to bet that's where the issue is.
Tawanda got refugee status through his mum. His mum had refugee status and invited him over as he was a minor so straight away he gets refugee status.
Not really, ICC rules say you need to have been a resident (183 days+ what Googly said) for four years, they are strict on it. I know a multi millionaire who doesnt qualify because he spends too much time abroad.
Yes those are ICC rules. But I act country has its own laws that takes precedence over ICC.
How do you know that, Jonty? Do you have the latest regs? It definitely used to be an issue and I think you're probably right.jontym87 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 8:07 pmZimbabwe Constitution only allows dual citizenship for citizens by birth only.
