T20 Africa Qualifiers
Re: T20 Africa Qualifiers
Big tournament for Maru. Bennett we always knew had the quality and confidence. Marumani has to take this and kick on against stronger teams, he's done well though. Definitely needed to win that final against Namibia for the mental side of the game, and it was a clinical win as well. Hopefully the games vs Afghanistan go well.

Worth noting all these teams are about as strong as a mid level NPL team, bar Namibia.tgk wrote: ↑Sat Oct 04, 2025 5:34 pmBig tournament for Maru. Todays results matter much more.
The only thing the players can gain from the other teams is confidence, hopefully that is not offset by getting used to cushy bowling.

Re: T20 Africa Qualifiers
Is what it is, can only beat the team in front of you. It was a close run game but we saw it over the line when we wouldn’t a year or six months ago. Marumani played a boss innings, strike rate wasn’t amazing but when a guy is carrying his bat it balances out. He needed that mature knock, for himself, and he’s done it now. Raza had a stinker of a game
he’s on the slide for sure, he’s got some performances in him yet though.
I’ve been impressed with the Sri Lanka series, Namibia series and this tournament. I don’t know if we will beat Afghanistan in this upcoming series but I’d be confident we won’t get pasted if we keep up this level of performance.
I’m still dubious about BT, he did well with his hundred, however he seems even more injury prone than Williams
I’m hoping Williams skipped this tournament for some family time but will be back for Afghanistan and there’s not more to it because we’ll need him at the World Cup.
Quality knock from Dion considering he’s been in and out the side through the tournament.
Tino’s maths is suspect saying Burl was striking at nearly 300 with his 26(12)

Well done Zim!
Opening batsmen and opening bowlers all having a good tournament, well supported by the rest

Re: T20 Africa Qualifiers
All for the good work done by Myers but I'm not entirely convinced if he has the game for T20s. Yesterday his SR was low for my liking and it did put the pressure on other batters.
It was actually a great game for Ryan Burl who should now get some breathing space. Burl is an impact player, he might fail a few times but he has got the big hitting game and should be in the team.
I would still question why Myers and why not Jono Campbell.or Ben Curran? They should be given a chance.
Very impressive last two series' for Marumani, extremely happy for him and I hope he kicks on.
Also a great couple of series for Brad Evans , again huge relief for Evans and he now seems to have cemented his place in the side.

The issue at the moment is probably 5 blokes or more could fill the middle over spots. We have had such great opening stands, the rest weren’t testedsam_ahm wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 6:07 amAll for the good work done by Myers but I'm not entirely convinced if he has the game for T20s. Is Nick Welch and Ben Curran with county cricket exprience better then Musekiwa and Mumyonga ?
Chivanga vs Maposa or Gwandu
Re: T20 Africa Qualifiers
Well this is it, we’re essentially just wasting 3 spots with Munyonga, Musekiwa, and arguably Maposa. They’re not upto it when facing and bowling against the top 8 teams. Does anyone know what Williams’ excuse for all this actually was?Mueddie28 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 06, 2025 12:08 amLets tell the truthAndy31 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 9:07 amThe issue at the moment is probably 5 blokes or more could fill the middle over spots. Re: T20 Africa Qualifiers
The difficulty is that numbers 6 and 7 in a T20 team are a) pretty specialist roles, and b) incredibly hard roles to do successfully on a consistent basis.
You can absolutely guarantee that Welch wouldn't fancy number 7 (why would he, he's batted top 3/4 in all the cricket he's ever played), and that Curran would be entirely unsuited to it. So those couple of guys aren't exactly competing with Munyonga and Musekiwa. The guy who might be would be J Campbell, but his domestic T20 record is almost comically bad, averaging 11 and striking under 100.
Chivanga? Tends to be very expensive in T20. Absolutely no guarantee whatsoever that he would be any better at all than any of the incumbents.

Re: T20 Africa Qualifiers
(Unfortunately) it's true.
Zimbabwe has to be enormously grateful to Raza for all he has done, on several occasions.
Unfortunately, in the past two years he has, almost always, underperformed.
Problem is: this Raza is still better than more than half of the Zimbabwe line-up.
