Don't be so ridiculous...
They were just 55 short! At least they got to 145 at a healthier rate than the Goats!
Truth be told, Vermeulen, Butterworth, Vitori, Panyangara&Taibu would've made this side look very different. I'll be hoping players are more evenly distributed among the franchises next season - particularly the batting. Guys like Mupariwa&Nicholson can join the Rocks, with some overseas pros being signed up for them! Under the circumstances, I'd say the Rocks have benefitted greatly. In another two seasons, don't be surprised to see these very same youngsters who are getting plenty of gametime&experience measure up well against the other franchises.
I hope they can mop up that outfield quick enough for Chatara and Co. to mop up the Rock's tail.
Chatara needs only three more to reach 100 first-class wickets before his 21st birthday. I reckon he would be the youngset Zimbabwean (Cremer was just over 21, Streak a tad older, can't think of another contender), and definitely the quickest to do so (26 matches). Come on the groundstaff!
Rocks finally show a bit of backbone and, with a lot of help from the weather, manage to draw the match. A decent effort of self-denial there by Marisa, who kept out the Goats for over two and half hours, 18* off 119. No milestone for Chatara though.
Nothing against Mountaineers but i'm glad to see Rocks holding out for the draw, there's nothing to be gained by having a team lose every game of the season
I know it won't happen but a go-ahead board might consider an American Football style draft, at least the sides would be balanced and give more of an overall improvement to Zim cricket, against it of course is telling players that they have to up sticks and move to a different part of the country whereas it would normally be an individuals choice
All the franchises have been understrength this season, but Rocks have only had 5 'top class' players, Vermeulen and Vitori have played twice each and Taibu once while Chibhabha has been a complete non event, Panyangara was the top wicket taker with 13 @ 19.69 from 99 overs and 5 games, hardly much of a number of overs from your top quickie but if you keep getting beaten by an innings .....
