Tatenda Taibu has retired?

Post by bayhaus »

Tatenda Taibu has retired from cricket at the age of 29 to follow a ministerial calling - a decision which has been coming for some time...
http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/co ... 71698.html
"I just feel that my true calling now lies in doing the Lord's work," Taibu said, "and although I am fortunate and proud to have played for my country, the time has come for me to put my entire focus on that part of my life."

"Tatenda Taibu has retired from all forms of cricket. He wants to focus all his attention on doing the Lord's work he says"

There is only a small window where your body is able to play cricket at a high level, even smaller as a wicketkeeper. Why not just wait another few years ??

He can honestly do both.

If he was really smart he could spread this eagle eye cherry thing he has going MORE by staying in the spotlight rather than fade into obscurity. He has 'pull' and influence in society at the moment but that won't last forever.

And I'm sure God would be cool with him if he started after the 2015 world cup.

I get the sense Taibu will be back. He could certainly do God's work and be a professional sportsman - it's not like Zimbabwe has a full schedule or cricket year round. Perhaps he should look at the example of Tim Tebow in the NFL. He does a lot of Christian missionary work while maintaining a successful sporting career.

Not just Tebow...examples abound in Deion Sanders, AC Green, the late Reggie White, Kurt Warner, Dwight Howard, etc. I just hope he won't stop getting down on one knee to reverse sweep only to start getting on one knee to "Tebow".

Yeah I'm calling bullshit on this being the sole reason.

Zimbabwes schedule is tiny.

He's wasting a gift that ultimately was given by God and spreads happiness to his countrymen- even hope!

Taibu;
Ali, I have to quit cricket because God wants me to do his work.....

AC;
That's a shame... We were just preparing to beef up salaries to normal level too, sad to see you go... What work does God want you to do?

Taibu;
....God wants me to play Cricket - get me on the plane.

That's a genuin shock -- but in a way it has been coming, hasn't it? When Tibba was confronting AC he must have had the inner strength of a man who knows he has other and (in his mind) higher options/ambitions/callings. And to be honest he sometimes batted like that too.

As others have noted, God and cricket can mix if you want to do it. I just recently read a piece about the late Rev. David Shepard, but of course that was a different era then.

I wish Tibba all the best, yet I'm extremely sad.
