16 maiden overs out of 53 bowled. Sure, part of it'll SA not taking any chances in light of our comparatively low total, but when you compare this to the nightmare in New Zealand, it's night and day. We could do better (and be screwed over by umpiring less), but can still hold heads high here.zimfan1 wrote:This is deffo not been easy for South Africa, the bowlers have bowled tightly and put South Africa under pressure, lots of dot balls and making them work for there runs

Agreed, its good to see that Nyumbu has the ability to hold up an end as well as being an attacking spinner.foreignfield wrote:To have SA still plodding along at 2.60 an over at this stage is a minor triumph in itself. I don't mind a few wide ones outside off: We are the minnows (as confirmed by the umpiring yesterday), we don't have to take the game to the Saffers.

Perhaps it's worth an over from Williams just before tea to get some variation.

Yes, impressive stuff from Nyumbu so far, our new "Smiling Assassin"
I think its time to go for Panya / Chatara in place of Tiripano. He has done his job in this spell.

Someone should tell our bowlers to slow things down a bit after tea. We don't want to bowl more overs than necessary. I don't know any other side which would bowl 33 overs in a session in the position we find ourselves in, not even with spinners bowling the bulk of the overs.

Maybe both sides are playing this Test like it's 1950? Bowl as many overs as possible in a day, run rates of 2.50, no television coverage, umpires decision stands...

Taylor doesn't get paid enough to pay any fines.foreignfield wrote:Someone should tell our bowlers to slow things down a bit after tea. We don't want to bowl more overs than necessary. I've always wondered how that works. Say a player from a country like Kenya or Zimbabwe gets fined, somewhere where players sometimes don't get paid, how do the ICC enforce it? Losing 20% of your match fee when you don't get paid is kind of ridiculous. I imagine they probably just turn a blind eye to it?Jemisi wrote:Taylor doesn't get paid enough to pay any fines.foreignfield wrote:Someone should tell our bowlers to slow things down a bit after tea. So... one session to go. Any targets?
If we take 2 wickets in the session and still retain an overall lead at stumps, I'd call that a win.
