Ryan Burl back in Zimbabwe contention?
Re: Ryan Burl back in Zimbabwe contention?
He can really play. I rate him highly. If what you say is true and that he was hoping for an A berth it would mean he had been verbally promised and there was a last minute change in plan by somebody or other. Whilst it may not be correct to offer him a berth ahead of a player that has done his time here, you just simply cannot ignore this young man's talent.

The expectation that Burl had was based on the close relationshio he has with the axed coach Chawaguta who is strong believer in the youth and promotion of players with form.Tawand Mpariwa was not even in any of the squads but somehow made it in due to some performances in England and the Tuskers. I believe franchise cricket is not a fair barometer to measure players for national selection. We have a lot of junk piled up in our franchises that prevent some of the talented players like ZIMWA ,ZAMBUKO,BOWIE, BURL and LAKE from playing franchise cricket.

Are Walter and Side-kick Singo axed only from the A tour or from more than that?

Malcolm Lake has just started university at Oxford Brooks in the UK so doesnt look like he will be back any time soon. Burl has to score runs at franchise level, will be intresting to see who takes him on, my bet would be the Rhinos.
Some of the selections for the "A" tour were very strange, no problem with Mpuwira being selected as he performed over in Ireland which is at least on par with our franchise stuff, i have heard that Atish Choudran is going to play for the Tuskers this year which will be a new face from a previous under 19 side.

For some reason I think the Eagles will pick him up. I can't wait to see how he does. The fact that he has shown some dedication to ZC could impress the selection panel and Mangongo especially, who rates Welch.
In terms of players, this could be the best news we've had since Sean Williams officially signed a contract in 2013. There was a brief clip of him batting somewhere and h look shit hot off his legs

Just found this on Youtube. It's dated five months ago, though, so some of his views about going back home may be out of date

Good interview there. Thanks for sharing.
By the way, this just occurred to me - what if Burl gets to play international cricket and does so well over many years that he becomes the benchmark for batsmen in future, instead of Bradman. A specific English word would be in for a change of meaning...
