Coaches of Zim Origin

Post by CrimsonAvenger »

Just thought of making a list of cricketers of Zimbabwe origin who are performing coaching roles outside of the country - so that we can keep track of them and their exploits.

1. Andy Flower has been with England national team as assistant coach, acting coach and is on the verge of becoming their head coach :)
2. Paul Strang is with Auckland at NZ.
3. Trevor Penney - Is he with Western Australia?

Please add to the list if there are more...

Tom Moody is the WA coach, although I think Penney is an assistant.

Coaching role of Richard Sims:

Thomas and Sims offer winter coaching

Swardeston coaches David Thomas and Richard Sims are offering winter coaching at Norwich School for the following age groups;

Group 1 u11, u12, u13 Oct 12th, 26th, Nov 9th, 23rd, Dec 7th

Group 2 u14, u15, u16 Oct 19th, Nov 2nd, 16th, 30th, Dec 14th

The sessions will take place on a Sunday evening 6pm - 8pm and are designed so that players will learn technical as well as tactical aspects of all keys areas of the game.

"During the course we will cover the three main skills - batting, bowling
and fielding - and with the 2 hour sessions we feel we have a better
timescale to develop these skills," said Richard.

"The course has only 12 spaces for each group and has been designed like this so that the coach-to-player ratio is effective," added David.

Course fee is £80

Please email Richard or David for more details about the course and availability or fill in attached application form and email to them.

Yes,that's right. The contract of Trevor Penney as an assistant coach of WA will end in 14th May,2010.

From Wikipedia:
On 14 May 2007, the WACA announced Penney's appointment as assistant coach of the Western Warriors under Tom Moody for the next three years.
Trevor Penney is also on the Kolkatta Knight Riders(KKR) coaching staff in the IPL.

The most notable Zimbabwean representation is SuperSport pundit Mpumelelo “Pommie” Mbangwa, the former Zimbabwe Test bowler. Former Zimbabwe captain Alistair Campbell is also here working for Supersport, and Zimbabwean-born ex-English county stalwart Trevor Penney is on the Kolkata coaching staff.

Coaching role of Gavin Ewing in Carrickfergus CC in Northern Ireland.

Link: http://www.cricketeurope4.net/DATABASE/ ... 5515.shtml
At junior level, the club will participate in leagues at Under 11, Under 13, and Under 15 levels, and will hope to emulate the success of last season's Under 15's who reached the U15 league final. These three age groups and an Under 17 Colts side will also participate in cup competitions at their age groups. Any youngsters interested in playing should come to the club's Middle Road grounds on a Tuesday evening (Under 11's and Under 13's: 6.00-7.30 pm, Under 15's: 7.30-9.00 pm) where pro Gavin Ewing and his team will provide expert coaching. Gavin will also be coaching in 13 local primary and secondary schools during May and June, and at the Northern Bank Summer Academy in July and August, and the club is once again indebted to Cannon Motors who have provided a car to enable him to carry out his duties.

My old uni housemates' dad is head of PE at Norwich School and works closely with Richard Sims. Sims coaches cricket, rugby (which he was equally good at) and hockey there. I never met him but he was "in the building" when a group of us hired nets at the school.
