Re: 2015 CWC squad announced

Post by bayhaus »

Greetings all and happy new year! Its been a while, have been on a sabbitical though I was trolling posts here and there.
I was waiting for the squad to be announced and am looking forward to the #CWC. I am okay with the squad that was selected with some concerns; I would have put in Vusi instead of Craig, cos if its a pick of two out of form players I would go with Vusi esp on fast bouncy wickets and at least he has been playing international cricket. The Warm up match against NZ will play a huge role in determining how far we will go. If we just play well against NZ, I dont expect us to win at all, we will go in with some confidence. And then apart from the other minnows which we HAVE to beat, I have a good feeling we are the team that is going to start the choking effect on SA! 8-) SA will have the jitters in everyone of their games and we have nothing to lose so we have to come hard at them! That being said they have what it takes to take the cup, but they always do...

1. Chibhabha I like Chamu cos he is fearless, and I think this world cup the openers will be getting off from the blocks from ball one. If Raza and Chamu click it will be quite exciting times.

2. Raza
One of the two openers will have to be given the license to go for it from ball one.

3. MasakadzaH - Ham must just go out there and enjoy himself. I am sure each time he walks out to bat commentators will be talking about his 14 year wait. Its a romantic story.

4. Taylor - I am worried about BT, lately he hasnt seemed confident. Lets hope he comes to the party.

5. Williams - Lets hope he turns up too.

6. Mire - Excited about Solo and his stint in Aus should do him well.

7. Chigumbura - Hope whenever he comes to bat he is not patching up cos if E is coming to patch up then we have no chance of winning that game.

8. Utseya - This is the Coventary Selection © (We have to have at least one each WC) from the last world cup. BIG gamble. Pro last few games has finished the game with a six. Twice against Canada and once against AUS. But I think Pro is in there as a reward for basically being ZC's mouth piece in the change room. I say if he sees fires in the warm up matches they must not persist with him.

9. Panyangara - Was impressed by his 180 ball effort without a boundary scored against SA. Will be tested in Aus. Looking forward to it!

10. Mupariwa - I am glad Mupariwa is back in the squad. He will have to bring everything he has.

11. Chatara - Looking forward to Chatara in AUS hope he is fit and worked on his weight cos I think he was bulking up a bit too much. But its his batting I am mostly excited about cos he seems to enjoy himself and has a go at the bowlers.

The rest oh well, lets hope noone gets injured
Chakabva, Kamungozi, Matsikenyeri, Ervine

PS I was suspicious about the weird inclusion of Craig in Bang, but if he makes the palying XI from the first game then it will confirm suspicions of a quota for white players (3).

I think it is a maximum quota of whites, not a minimum. Nice to have you back btw.

welcome Bayhouse. Long Time

My problems with this squad are the following and i struggle to understand some selections

Craige Ervine i was shocked how this irish pub cricketer made it to Bangladesh and on the plane to Australia. Apart from the obvious fact that he is just in Zimbabwe like Lamb , Burl and Matsi to collect a big world cup check and buggers off to the pub in Ireland .His wretched form was here for all to see and i think somehow he used some sort of white magic to get on the plane. I strongly believe he adds no real value to the squad , he is in bad form, dosnt field well and does not bowl clearly a white quota player and the mascot and water boy for BT , Raza and Willliams . I think someone like Jongwe or even Cephas Zhuwawo

Chamu Chibaba- A lazy and thick cricketer who will struggle in the world cup a flat track bully who is not committed to the game. wants to be pampered and thinks he is a God who averaage 17 runs this year a real shocker.Could have been replaced by a Richmond Mutumbami to ease the keeping burden on BT

Prosper Utseya- Dosnt bowl , dosnt really bat Makoni's love child gets on the plane based on sentiment a guy who intends to quit and coach after next season. Him being selected showed the pure tribalism in the selectors who have left a pure ndebele out of the squad by dropping our countries best bowler John Nyumbu who has outbowled prosper and all the other spinners

Always good to have your thoughts bayhaus, gargamel.

The problem is, even among those who are in this constant churn, very few of them seem to work on their game regularly to improve once dropped, as they know for sure that their replacements are equally bad and that the wheel would turn again and they would come back in favour.

Who would have bet Prosper getting a hit trick in his career. Not many people. His play has always been suited to the One day set up. Bowl tight, hold up an end, create pressure and at the back end hit a few out of the park which he has done time and again. So be as it may he has bowled against Uganda and Canada his figures haven't changed a bit. Nyumbu was totally out of depth in Bangaladesh and he was largely in effective regardless of the ethnic affiliations. If Utseya bowls his full quarter at less than 4 an over job done well played regardless of whose in the hut so to speak.

Hmmm there's a lot of great debate about the squad with everyone bringing up greats points but I'm still pretty happy with the squad. The main thing is that all available top line players are picked, players who can win us matches ( BRMT, Hami, willy, Raza, Mire, Chigs, Panga and Larry ). The rest of the guys who missed out compared to the rest of the squad on the plane there isn't really much difference but at least Matsi has been in good domestic form and Chamu has a century and fifty against Canada ......

Vusi is the only proven match winner not in the squad and seems to have struck form but I'm guessing the selectors finally ran out of patience which I can't blame them for ......

Utseya is the one I'm not so sure about but time will tell wether it was a good idea or not to pick him .....

Are with you about Ervine Gargamel, just has not done anything to warrant his inclusion. Would of prefered a gamble with a player for the future such as Kazusa, Burl, PJ or Mamhiyo.

However its not the worst squad that the selectors have chosen so i a fairly happy. We have 8 or 9 bowlers in the side whatever the combination we play by the looks of it which is an advantage.

After watching the net practice on Saturday I wouldnt be supriced to see Chakabva being included in the first 11. He looked more comfortable than all the other batsman. Taylor was poor when it came to big hitting as he mistimed a lot of the balls. Same with Masakadza most of the balls where going high towards mid off position. As for Matsikenyere it was the joke of the day as he failed to even face Chigumbura nicking off most of his delivers. Matsikenyere was mostly beaten for pace by chatara. William and Ervine had to many lose strokes aganist Kamungozi's spin with both driving the ball gently back to the bowler for a simple return catch. I didn't have the time to watch the other guys i.e. Waller and the tail. Raza was the usual agressive and i could not tell if some shots were mistimed or going straight to a feild since he was just hitting the ball hard.

So, as suspected, Mutumbami was unfortunate to miss out on the World Cup selection just because of lack of game time in the last few months (scoring well today against the Canadians)...
