Team changes for Pakistan match

Post by jaybro »

So time to move on to the next match and what line up will play ?? First thing first are Mire and Chamu fit ?? If not let's get some replacements, the way I see it we're already playing with a limited squad. They don't seem to have faith that the 'New' Utseya will hold up in this WC and surely the Kamungozi experiment will be but to bed for now so if the other two aren't fit we're stuck with the remaining 11 guys .....

Not matter who is fit or not Mupariwa for Kamungozi is a must, I'm not putting a line through Faddzie's name for ever but he needs to work on flighting the ball and a few more variations ......

The Brisbane pitch will suit Chatara and even Mire I reckon with the extra bounce which could be Pakistans weakness, Williams and Raza can supply the spin .....

If we have Mupariwa bowling change with Mire then we don't have to bowl Williams too early like we did against the windies. Also having Mupariwa who can bowl at the death ( not sure how he will go ) we don't have to bowl Panyangara in the last 10, Tinashe can bowl 6-7 up front then come back in the middle overs to finish off .....

The other bonus about Mupariwa is he is a wicket taker and always has been so if he can pick up a few especially in the last 10-15 overs it will help slow the bleeding of runs in the final overs which has cost us a realistic chance of chasing totals against RSA and the Windies ......

Chibhabha
Raza
Masakadza
Taylor
Williams
Ervine
Chigumbura
Mire
Utseya
Chatara
Panyangara

I just don't know what Mupariwa can bring to the table. Would prefer Utseya - at the very least he has enough name recognition that the Pakistani's might pay some respect to him.

Don't u think he offers another option at the death captain ?? Plus gives us more flexibility with Chatara and Panyangara plus he always seems to pick up a wicket ......

Yeah I'd rather Chinouya or Vitori but from Utseya's figures from the warm up matches I can't see him being effective ......

I agree with jaybro on this one. Mupariwa should be selected.

Please,
We arent talking about Gayle, Warner or Steyn here,
We are talking about Prosper Utseya.

chakabva will score 20 of 67 balls Pathetic . so utseyas medium Pace is better than vitori and mPofus bowling and utseya is the same guy who is demanding a bigger cut as a snr Player for the world cuP funds yet hs warming the bench

I hear you, but at least Utseya is an experienced international campaigner with a hattrick to his name (irrespective of whatever bowling style he's decided to go with this week).

The last time Mupariwa played international cricket Ian Smith was still prime minister.

Well, pretty disappointed with that remark. Mupariwa has been treated unfairly right from the time of Streak at the helm, despite his ability to fill the void left by Brent's retirement. There was no reason to drop him in the first place. The only logical reason was he lacked pace, but he had wickets to show. When our desire for pace did not materialize as much as it should have, we should have gone back to Tawanda long back.

If we are looking at slow medium pace, Mupariwa has loads of experience in that compared to Utseya. Having defended him like this, Mupariwa might go for 100 runs in 8 overs if picked, but I'll stick to my guns - he deserves to play ahead of Pro (who should not have been there) and ahead of anyone else we left at home too - based on his performances back home and his lionhearted character. He should have played ahead of Regis and Matsi in the 15 too.

That's a fair point - he was the logical replacement for Brent. He had a great average and a great economy, he didn't deserve to be dropped at the time.

I'm not against Mupariwa getting a game, I just think ODI cricket has evolved so much since he last played that he's going to struggle to make an impact now. So if it's a choice between the two, I'd opt for Utseya if for no other reason than the batsman may think "hey, this is the guy that took a hat trick against SA - maybe I should have a few sighters just to be on the safe side".

The Northern Districts guys didn't think so .......
