Permutations and combinations

Post by Dr_Situ(ZimFanatic) »

After the Zim-Pak match, the standings are:

Ind - 6 points
SA - 4 points
Ire - 4 points
WI - 4 points
Zim - 2 points
Pak - 2 points
UAE - 0 points

The next matches are:

SA def IRE (SA 6pts)
Pak def UAE (PAK 4pts)
Ind def WI (IND 8pts)
SA def Pak (SA 6pts)

Zim def Ire (ZIM 4pts) If we cant beat them then we should come back.
Ind def Ire (IND 10pts)
SA def UAE (SA 8pts)

Zim bt Ind (ZIM 6pts) No option, we have to do this else forget watching WC
WI def UAE (WI 6pts)

Standings before last match between Pak v IRL
Ind - 10 points
SA - 8 points
WI - 6 points
Zim - 6 points
Ire - 4 points
Pak - 4 points
UAE - 0 points

Win wise, this last match of pool B between IRL-PAK is immaterial as whosoever wins will join Zimbabwe and WI for a three team race for two slots. NRR wise this mt becomes important. So, the good news is we are still with a chance as we have to win our next two. With India we cant win with a thumping margin so we better kick IRL out in a professional manner. The problem is both Pak-Irl will be knowing the real calculations.

Another easy win for Zim to qualify is UAE beating WI as that will knock them out and Zim will progress. Pak-IRL mt will decide other QF.

So all is still not lost provided we WIN. If we cant win (havent beaten a test side since 1999 in WC) then we should stop dreaming.

Zim bt Ind kkkkk that's epic. After our lil fiasco today. Maybe the new PB guy has a point.

It will actually help Zimbabwe's cause if Ireland defeat us and make the Quarterfinals. Ireland making the QFs will force the ICC to seriously reconsider their 10-team tournament for 2019 which we likely struggle to qualify for.

Honestly I don't see the team I saw playing yesterday winning any match. To even think they could beat India after being beaten by a toothless Pakistan.lets be realistic guys.

I hope Ireland win in fourth spot. They are a spirited team and not intimidated by big names ( etc Chris Gayle). They should make the quarterfinals and ICC should reconsider elevating them to top 10 full test status. The 2 lower ranked teams should be relegated to the associate zone. This would make it more exciting.

I hope this happens. This is actually our easiest route to the next round.

As long as Ind and Pak beat the hell out of Ireland and we beat Ireland decently, we'll both have 4 points each with us having better NRR. If UAE beats WI decently (please, let this happen!) we can go through in 4th place with better NRR than IRL and WI if we don't lose to India too badly. So, we can actually make it with just the win over Ireland!

But, We have to beat IRL. Given the current mindset, who knows...

This analysis is the only way to get myself back on my feet after the disaster of last weekend.
