FORMER Zimbabwe Cricket Under 19 all-rounders James Bruce and Malcolm Lake will be available for selection when the Chevrons Under 23 host their Sri Lankan counterparts this year.
Bruce and Lake will be additions to the pool of national Under 23 squad, which had been selected for the postponed home tour against Singapore, set to play Sri Lanka.
Bruce would have been in the Chevrons camp preparing for India but is sitting for examinations at his university in South Africa while Lake is in England at the Oxford MCC University.
In the just ended 2015-16 domestic season, Bruce turned out for Mid West Rhinos in a Pro50 Championship match against Manicaland Mountaineers and scored an unbeaten 63 and took 2-30.
“These guys want to play for Zimbabwe 100 percent. Hopefully we will have them for the Sri Lanka Under 23 tour subject to availability,” ZC chief selector Kenyon Ziehl told H-Metro.
The Sri Lanka tour has been confirmed but Zimbabwe Cricket are yet to provide the itinerary. Initially, this tour had been slated for end of this month but it appears it will be played after the Indian series.
Ziehl believes the involvement of young talent particularly the Under 23’s will be the benchmark for the future of ZC on the international stage.
“We have captured most of these young players for the Under 23 so subject to availability we should have a strong Under 23 side for Sri Lanka. We need a platform for the guys to play. We need game time for these guys,” he said.
Meanwhile, the senior Chevrons squad will begin practice matches today as they intensify preparations for the upcoming limited overs tour against India in June.

Get them in the team
Re: James Bruce/Malcolm lake available
The more players available, the better. Especially younger players.
Re: James Bruce/Malcolm lake available
best part about this is hearing that they basically want to turn the A team into an u23 side..the likes of nyumbu and mpofu shouldn't be considered for anything.also good to see some guys still wanting to play for us..I think Malcolm Lake is a special talent.. backing him to do big things when he comes back.in a couple of years I think competition for places for batsmen will get serious with PJ lake burl Chari and Jongwe, who is actually a fantastic batsman, coming through the system.
Re: James Bruce/Malcolm lake available
its good.
James Bruce looks like he has some slog to him, which is what the country needs, and Lake has a bit o natural talent.
Are they a value add + to the national team? I dont know.
However, I am certain that this is bolstering the reserve calibre of players if nothing else. Depth is a big problem of ours.
Whats more, they are young. We are going to need them after the next WC if they hold their own.
And like Ive always said, when the white guys come back, it means theres been positive news in ZCland. I like that this new chairman has made the diaspora a focus, Ive been calling for that initiative for years, its our ticket back to competitiveness. The players are THERE!

You always have the answer to everything. You should join the scientologists.
Fact is, two players have come back and not one is black.
Why do we celebrate this and overlook the fact we can't even get back the hundreds of black youths lost to the game? Then ZC go against sacrifices of the last twenty years and beg for white guy's back only. Would be OK if we saw some African faces in that list but no. The .5% is represented again.
Zengland team.
