[Match Thread] Zimbabwe A v South Africa A: 1st 'A' Test

Post by Flakeman »

Any predictions, I hope and pray for the best but can see us losing by a big margin.

Key factors (batting)

- Wait on Viljoen, he does bowl a few bad balls each over
- Know when to leave Philander
- Attack Piedt, dont let him settle on one line and length.

bowling

- Try remove Cook early !! I think this would scare them abit

I think they are definately stronger on the bowling front.

Think aleseni might surprise a few people tomorrow if we bowl first. I would have liked to have seen Vitori in action. Hopefully he comes into the equation at Bulawayo. Would have also liked to have seen burl or nkosana mpofu play. Far more deserving than a maruma.why isn't jongwe playing??

Interesting to see 38 year old Dewald Pretorius playing for SA A. He was quite the story back in 2002 when he made his test debut against Australia due to his tough upbringing in an orphanage.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

I guess it is a mistake by Cricinfo as usual. It must be 27 year old Dwaine Pretorius: http://www.espncricinfo.com/India/conte ... 27830.html

So its 279 for 3 at close on the first day, Zimbabwe's bowlers not making any impression whatsoever. Given they played at Sports club so anything less than 5 wickets on the day is not really up to standard given especially since had three frontline fast bowlers. Shingi Masakadza has surprisingly kept his run rate down, this should give a second chance in Bulawayo at least.

They should have been 6 down at least.. 3 catches down off Aliseni, 1 off Nyumbu and 1 off Nyauchi.. Our seamers bowled well but our spinners were poor.. Aliseni bowled really rapid and had the crowd excited and rallying behind him but many nicks went through the slips.. He's really rapid (over 140kph every ball). Shingi bowled well.. Nyauchi tried to keep things tight but lost his way at the end..
