There is just something about Tino mawayo that he almost always performs in the big matches. Clearly opening with chari in the New Zealand tests. One of our best long format players. Top score of 163 against Pakistan no other current squad member comes close apart from mount masakadza

I really thought that Mawoyo was finished after the domestic season he had last year. Apparently not! Good for him.

He even had a poor run in English club cricket, as he played near me, up until he got called up for this game. But I think he's get something about him. As well as that 163* , he also got crucial fifties in the win against Pakistan, and the near miss v New Zealand. Hope he can cement a place as our test opener.

if you knew how dead that pitch is then we all wont
be saying or celebrating anything its as dead as you
will ever see, 13 year olds will stand on that wicket
& grind out 100's. Ask any1 or rupeni a zc staffer its
like throwdowns out there a bowling machine is more
intimidating than what that pitch is. Maybe it was a way
by way zc to get their mawoyos etc in2 the nz tests but
he will get caught out unless they plan an even dead pitch
than that 1 which is highly unlikely to even match
I suggest to take nyauchi only from that game & or chari
otherwise they were not even half tested
When you see a fast bowler struggling to get the ball
to the wk without it bouncing again mmmh

Good performance regardless. I expected a complete raping but it was pretty 50/50 against half the Protea team to be fair.

also hearing the pitch was dead but it still takes a certain kind of mentality to bat the whole day against superior opposition.. its a quality that's not that easy to find especially with the small talent pool we have. some of the senior guys like Elton don't have the mentality and technique to bat the whole day. don't be surprised to see those senior players getting steamrolled by the same SA 'A' team. I'm all for developing mawoyo, chari and chakabva to be test specialists. they still have time.just look at Misbah and Younis Khan playing for Pakistan way past 35.

The nature of the wicket doesn't matter when you comparing the two sides that played the game. The wicket was equally dead or sporting for both sides.

It was a very good fight back from a follow on situation. Chari certainly showed his class. I would really like to see Chari, Chakabva, and Shingi get serious consideration for the Test side. Mawoyo too.

Guys like Elton, Sibanda, Jongwe will not take the team anywhere except downwards. I am starting to doubt the quality of Williams as well, but he's safe due to there not being much talent left.

Due to his love of KFC, from this point on Tino should be called "The Colonel". On a more serious note he does seem to be one of few with the right temperament for test cricket. Of course knowing ZC he will sit on the bench for the tests and then be selected as an opener in a T20 series.
