Firdose moonda in her article on cricinfo says
.he is open to one day international return in the future
Does not matter if he walks away for more than a year, he 100% will not be the same player he is right now. A return after a year or two will never be easy at all to play top flight cricket. Hopefully he will make a return within 5 to 6 months.
Correct.
So many people here underestimate the impact of time out of the game in a sport like cricket.
Look at Cremer, sprayed it everywhere in a UAE limited overs match 18 months after giving the game up when at top of his game.
Also refer to Bliggie and many others. Also why Murray has a big job ahead of him.
At 34 and the girl of his life, once that bubble bursts he will not be the same.
Cricinfo profile of the 'James Bond' of cricket:
FULL NAME: Angus James Mackay
BORN: 13 June 1967, Harare
KNOWN AS: Gus Mackay
I almost feel that Williams was born too late. He would have fitted in nicely with the Neil johsons and Andy flowers in the 90s and early 00s. Individuals who share the same will to win like Williams and have true grit.
We won't see many like him again for zim. A fiery character but gave so much to the cause and who truly blossomed last few years.
Would have been great to have him around for another 2 years. Impart that experience on marumani myers shumba etc.
The new boys will have to rely on Taylor ervine raza and Chakhabva.
I can see the dilemma though... Talented youngsters coming through and ZC want to keep them. Older players feel a bit sidelined. Some of the lsnguahe being used by chief of Selectors David mutendera hasn't been particularly helpful towards the older players either
Losing him from tests is shocking even if he's open to a white ball return. That stupid biobubble stuff in the winter sucked. Did he make this move after Ervine was given the captaincy or before? That news only just broke. Losing his is so bad. Williams is one of the few players over the last decade plus who hurts over losing.
Really hoping that ZC have a sit down with him to iron this out.
Seems salvageable.
Idk, I mean I hope so too. But like the other senior guys, Sean has put up with so much over such a long period of time and kept going. For him to quit now, I sense it means it's too much this time and isn't salvageable. He's also not the sort of guy who would announce this on the eve of a crucial tour unless he was mega pissed off. It's pretty bad timing for the team and his mates. Imagine the atmosphere in the camp now? It must be horrendous.
I also would presume he would have expressed his concerns to ZC already before taking such a drastic step as this, and they obviously haven't budged. So here we are.
Presumably Masakadza & Rajput are standing their ground over the various quoted issues. The only real chance of any of it being resolved is if the board intervene and take Sean's side. But we all know they won't!

You're very optimistic if you think all of them are going to be around for another 2 years......
It's been known for a long time that this coach is not good enough, at least not for Zim. Unfortunately, ZC would rather a yes man be at the helm because they then never have to do any work.
In saying that, Williams should also be able to discuss his issues with someone on the board or higher up rather than just making a decision. Perhaps he did, I am not sure, and if he did and was left still feeling like nothing came of it, then we need to reassess how we handle player issues.
It's quite obvious that there are still many issues with ZC and the wrong people are in charge to fix them.
Williams can still come back if things change, but he would need to stay fit and practicing whilst he is away.
In the end, we have a dud coach who has achieved nothing with Zim. We have a dud administration who have done nothing good for the game and would rather spite themselves than have to concede to anyone else. We have a technical director who is too timid to actually force the change we need.
It's a shit show from down to bottom and all these youngsters we are so hyped about, will suffer. They will plateau and the careers they should have, will not pan out.
