Re: Guessing & Compiling Franchise Squads
I have long asked, but never received an answer, why is cricket so archaic in that you have to play domestically in a country to represent it? Why can't it be like most other sports where club affiliations don't matter?brmtaylor.com admin wrote:It's pretty lousy that the ICC or the English government or someone can't apply some common sense and say that even though these guys are Kolpak players they should be able to represent their birth country.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

Googly, how much would these young guys need to be paid to keep them in the system?

I think you mean Marillier, not Mariller. It's like looser and loser. We're all holding thumbs that they will catch you human trafficking and being generally annoying and they behead you fairly soon.##Dougie Mariller wrote:Big Names to watch out for in the future :

**** big question mark will be how many will turn up for Zimbabwe National Cricket in future, as Zimbabwe every time loses best of their under 19 talents to other nations.
Re: Guessing & Compiling Franchise Squads
Maybe Z$10 000 000 in bond notes or the US equivalent, which will be about $100 bucks in a few months time. But seriously I think that horse might have bolted.eugene wrote:Googly, how much would these young guys need to be paid to keep them in the system?
They should have done it by offering scholarships or academy slots, but only to the top boys. You'd need an exceptional kid with good stats to risk the money. I don't think we have the budget now. What people need to realise is that batsmen need to be scoring regular hundreds here to be in with a shout of being a quality player. Maybe 25% of the games they play should result in a big innings or they just don't have the goods.
Again if they make sure guys can play the season here in the English winter you might find guys committing to a season.
A good salary here is $1500, with the norm being around $800 (before tax!), so you're not going to find too many guys at that price, never mind what the current franchise wage is. ZC would have enough money to be more pro-active, within reason, if they weren't so overstaffed and over paid at admin level, and of course if they kept a clean sheet.
Oh, if they threw in a level 2 and 3 coaching course so the boys had a qualification to make some money for themselves that would also be an incentive. Not a Prosper special but a genuine one. Of course for 100k they could get the boys a Doctorate from the University.
Re: Guessing & Compiling Franchise Squads
I think it's important to get something behind you as a cricketer. If ZC had someone assess the youngsters and ensure they did a reputable online degree in a classroom for 3-4 hours a day and obviously some homework in the evenings to keep them out of the bars and away from the HSC prostitutes it would be a winner. One classroom, which they have, and a decent teacher that didn't try and fiddle with the boys and it's game on. One teacher's salary would mean one of the top dogs would have to take an 8% salary reduction!! Of course if this was offered to the franchise guys they would be in real danger of being employable and wouldn't need to have to suck up ZC's abuse and would leave the cleverly designed ZC cricket poverty trap.

Not sure how true, but according to this: http://www.chronicle.co.zw/papa-back-at-tuskers/
Dabengwa, Mamhiyo and Brad Staddon have signed for / are training with the Tuskers. Ncube, Nyumbu, Mboyi, Chari, Mpofu, Chimhamhiwa, Mutumbami and Williams are confirmed too, the latter seems to be back as skipper.

If Staddon makes a comeback then I'm officially putting him in "domestic stalwart" category.
There's a name I really didn't expect to come back into the reckoning.

Last season it was Mabuza, now it might be Staddon.brmtaylor.com admin wrote:If Staddon makes a comeback then I'm officially putting him in "domestic stalwart" category.

Why play the oldies when Adam Keefe should be getting a game.
Re: Guessing & Compiling Franchise Squads
Poor Journalism. Staddon is currently in Zannibar! He definitely isn't making a comeback.CrimsonAvenger wrote:Not sure how true, but according to this: http://www.chronicle.co.zw/papa-back-at-tuskers/

Godwill is in Cape Town at uni.
Dabengwa playing until he leaves to go back to Denmark in January I believe.
I did notice from Deven Bell's instagram that he was in NZ, so i assume he isnt playing this season
