Hear attack scorecard after day one

http://www.cricinfo.com/zimdomestic-09/ ... 14295.html

Mountaineers 203 all out and Tuskers 19/0 after 10 overs

BIg news is that Dion Ebrahim makes his return to the side along with Sean Williams who missed the operning Logan cup match, also intresting to see that Gavin Ewing is not in the side as even though he has been training with the sqaud it looks like John Nyumbu has secured the spot as number one spinner, and to be fair to him the way he has been bowling he fully deserves his place in the side.

Also noticed that Derrick Townshend is the match referee, its good to see an experianced offical involved in the game again and hopefully he can pass on some of his experiance to the up and coming umpires

Good to see both Christopher Mpofu and Tawanda Mupariwa among the wickets, after the Bangladesh defeats the National side will have to use the seamers a bit more and balance out the attack, you can't rely on the spinners to win every match. Stuart Matsikenyeri seems to have started the domestic season off with a bang, no doubt he will retain his place in the National side for a while longer.

Good positive start this by Tuskers, well bowled Mpofu, Mupariwa, Nyumbu. Yes, Matsi might have already done enough to keep himself in the national side.

Good to see Dion Ebrahim back in the Tuskers lineup and opened the innings as an experiened player. :D

I would prefer Gavin Ewing as a specialist batsman in the middle order as there is already John Nyumbu who is doing very well as a spinner. Ewing has a FC batting average of 37+.
I would have dropped Ngulube as there is also Coventry who can keep wicket.

Good bowling by the national team pacers (Mpofu and Mupariwa).

Matsikenyeri is also doing well. He always seems to do enough to retain his place in the national side...

Matabeleland Tuskers off to good start

By Mehluli Sibanda

A splendid bowling display saw Matabeleland Tuskers bowl out Mountaineers on the first day of their Logan Cup four-day cricket match at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo yesterday.
Matabeleland Tuskers bowled out the defending champions for 203 in 68.1 overs with the highest score for the Mountaineers coming from Stuart Matsikenyeri who made 70 runs while Shingirai Masakadza was second best with 57 runs at number nine.
At the close of play, Matabeleland Tuskers were 19 runs for no loss with skipper Terrence Duffin and Dion Ebrahim the two batsmen at the crease with a first innings deficit of 184 runs.
Duffin won the toss, sent Mountaineers in to bat first and saw his decision pay off as the visitors never recovered from a poor start.
Mountaineers lost two wickets in quick succession with only nine runs on board. First to go was Bernard Mlambo who was dismissed by Christopher Mpofu who had him caught in the slips by Mark Vermeulen.
His opening partner Tino Mawoyo followed shortly when Tawanda Mupariwa bowled him.
The visitors captain Hamilton Masakadza fell for eight runs with medium pace bowler Gregory Strydom bowling him. Former Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu made 20 runs before John Nyumbu had him taken by close fielder Charles Coventry.
Mountaineers continued to struggle and at one stage they were reduced to 90 runs for the loss of seven wickets. It had to take a 94 run stand for the eight wicket between Matsikenyeri and Shingirai Masakadza to take them to a respectable score.
Pace bowler Mpofu was the most outstanding Matabeleland Tuskers bowler with four wickets for 39 runs in 13.1 overs, Nyumbu was close behind with three wickets for 37 runs while Mupariwa picked up two wickets.
Matabeleland Tuskers would be hoping to put up a solid show with the bat and take a commanding fist innings lead when the match enters its second day this morning.

Mpofu destroys Mountaineers

By Robson Sharuko

PACEMAN Chris Mpofu tore into the Mountaineers powerful batting line-up and gave Matabeleland Tuskers the upper hand on the first day of their Logan Cup battle at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Wednesday.

The tall Zimbabwe seamer was the destroyer-in-chief, with impressive figures of 4-39, as the hosts dominated day one of this showdown.

At the close of play on Wednesday, the visitors had been bundled out for just 203 with national team batsman Stuart Matsikenyeri providing the resistance with his half-century.

In reply the hosts were 19 for no loss with the returning Dion Ebrahim, back from a spell in New Zealand, unbeaten on 10 and Terrence Duffin unbeaten on six.

The presence of Ebrahim — who fulfilled his promise to return home and resurrect his international career — was another example of how domestic cricket is taking its steps back into the light after a period of turmoil.

Both Ebrahim and his skipper Duffin found the boundary once in the tricky final 10 overs that they faced before stumps were drawn.

But the day clearly belonged to the hosts’ fired-up bowling team of Mpofu, the persistent John Nyumbu and Tawanda Mupariwa.

The hosts won the toss and elected to field and they were given immediate rewards when Mpofu removed Tino Mawoyo for four, with just nine on the board.

That set the tone for the hosts’ bowlers who continued to torment the visiting batsman with little respect for their powerful batting line-up with an inspired spell that must have impressed their coach Robin Brown.

The Mountaineers slipped to 39-4 and then 99-7 before a 94-run partnership between the brilliant Matsikenyeri, top-scoring for his side with his 70, and the impressive Shingirai Masakadza helped them past the 200 mark.

The younger Masakadza duly completed his deserved half-century before he was trapped lbw by the persistent Nyumbu — whose right-arm off-breaks — gave him an impressive return of 3-37.

Skipper Hamilton Masakadza went for eight, clean bowled by Gregory Strydom, and former national team skipper Tatenda Taibu scored 20 before he was caught by Charles Coventry off the bowling of Nyumbu.

With their top-order having been destroyed, the visitors needed something from Matsikinyeri and, although he responded well, he was clearly short of partners as wickets tumbled on the other end.

The arrival of the younger Masakadza brought a semblance of order but then Mupariwa struck again, to remove Shingirai, and the Mountaineers were dismissed for 203 in 68.1 overs.

After the end of day 2, Mountaineers has got a lead of 89 runs with 8 wickets in hand.

Another poor display by the Tuskers. After the end of the 1st innings of Tuskers, Mountaineers had a lead of 12 runs scoring only 203 runs in the 1st innings.

The only positive batting came from Dion Ebrahim who made the highest 41 runs coming as an opener. Ngulube scored 39 and Strydom 32, notable...

Shingirai Masakadza took 3 wickets again and Maruma continuing his good bowling from taking 3 Tuskers wicket.

I'm truly loving Timycen Maruma's performances. His proving to be one class act, not only his bowling but his batting has also improved greatly. If he keeps this up he will be one tuff candidate to over look for the national team.
