FORMER Kenya cricket captain Steve Tikolo hopes his involvement in Zimbabwe’s domestic cricket setup will help develop upcoming players in the country. Tikolo, regarded as the best batsman ever not to play Test cricket, jetted into Harare on Tuesday to join Southern Rocks –– one of the franchises in Zimbabwe’s new domestic structure.
“I’m obviously happy to pass down the little I have learnt in my playing career,” Tikolo said soon after arrival.
“If I do that I will be happy. Obviously, when I play cricket I am always looking for new challenges, and playing in Zimbabwe is a big challenge.”
Tikolo is featuring for his new team in a four-day game against the Mashonaland Eagles on Wednesday. He will soon be joined by his Kenya teammate Thomas Odoyo, who is also set to sign for the Masvingo-based franchise.
The 38-year-old Tikolo commended cricket ties between his country and Zimbabwe.
“At board and playing level relations are excellent,” he said. “Obviously in Zimbabwe the standards are better. In Kenya we’ve had our problems with new players coming in all the time and change of personnel.
“More games will obviously help our standards. The more you play the better you get.”
The recent appointment of West Indian Eldine Baptiste as Kenya’s national team coach is a step in the right direction, said Tikolo.
“I have worked with him for two weeks. He is very focused on the job. He wants guys to work hard. Discipline is his work line”. –– Staff Writer.

Good to see foreigners like Tikalo getting their hands up in devoloping and coaching department in Zimbabwe. Hope we will be able to see more foreigners involved in the game in the future...

i think i have found myself a team in Southern rocks, they started badly but i hope they will pick up
12.4 Odhiambo to Vermeulen, FOUR, that's an appalling long hop, Vermulen had plenty of time to get into position, drink a cup of tea, and pull the ball towards the long leg boundary- his first boundary today

Certainly...The Rocks are now looking like a much balanced team with the inclusion of certain player. For instance Steve Tikalo as a player/coach, overseas player Thomas Odoyo, potential batsman Stephan Marillier and returnee Craig Ervine.
