Eddo Brandes: 'I think we got Test status too late'

Post by CrimsonAvenger »

Great interview of Eddo Brandes. Fascinating read: http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/co ... 94166.html

A missed opportunity though, as he wasn't asked about the biscuit episode...

The passion and pride of Eddo Brandes and his team mates is one of the key differences between our golden generation and the dross we are served up today. These guys fought for everything, some even for their own country. Our current lot only fight for the last KFC drumstick. These guys were essentially amateurs playing a professional game, you couldn't even recreate this environment today if you wanted to.

I agree with Brandes that Zimbabwe would have achieved more success had test status been granted in the 1980s after the 83 World Cup or something.

The Playing XI that troubled the strong teams and shown Zimbabwe Going to have bright future in comming days and have great possibility to win a major trophy. Strong teams used to love playing against this side and was popular side that was called everytime in tri nation tournaments.

Solomon Mire
Peter Moor
Craig Ervine
TMusakanda
Ryan Burl
SWilliams
Malcolm Waller
Greame Cremer
CMumba
DTiripano
CMpofu

Playing XI that got all out for 54 against an Associate Nation like Afghanistan and moved themselves in Tier 2 cricket. Very Soon will be seen as " New Associates ". This era has more complain to ICC and other politics instead of improving the game.

Future will be clear after Netherland & Scotland Tour.

that fighting spirit is definitely missed. we just dont have it anymore. another thing that i feel should be adopted is the way they approached tests initially. first concern should be not losing. even if it means we play on unnatractive flat wickets. we will eventually figure out what our actual stregnths are then build from there.worked well for the 90s side and Bangldesh now.
