Williams and Garwe Out of Bangladesh Tour

Post by zimfan1 »

Prosper Utseya (c) Graeme Cremer, Chamu Chibhabha Elton Chigumbura, Charles Coventry, Kyle Jarvis, Hamilton Masakadza, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Chris Mpofu, Forster Mutizwa, Ray Price, Tatenda Taibu (wk), Brendan Taylor, Mark Vermeulen, Malcolm Waller

So Williams out of the tour through injury (damm) and Garwe cast away after one game (harsh) and Chibhabha and Taibu make it back in

Looks like there will be two decsions to make

Jarvis or Mpofu

Mutizwa or Taibu

I don’t understand Chamu Chibhabha’s inclusion. That guy is hopeless against anything slow chucked to him. On hard and fast pitches, fine, but Bangladesh?

Zim were short of seam bowling against Kenya. I guess it provides a seam option to an extra batsmen or to a spinner if the 3 man spin attack fails.

I agree with his inclusion it balances the squad better as there appears to be no appetite for playing 2 specialist seamers.

as long as chamu isn't bowling first change i don't mind his inclusion, more seam options are needed as jarvis is new to international cricket and it is unfair on Elton Chigumbura to be expected to hit 50's and be economical and a wicket in every game he plays, i know he's a good player but realistically he can't do it all the time

What injury has Williams actually got?. This is a huge blow cause he is one of Zimbabwe's best players.

No Sibanda? I'm surprised, what else does he need to do to get back into the side? two hundreds and a double hundred in his last 4 innings. Is he just not considered a limited overs player?

Not having Williams in the touring party is a huge blow. He got the injury at the wrong time, and with the competition for places heating up, you never know whats in store tomorrow. :(

Chibhabha in for Garwe? If anything, they should have gone for Sibanda / Rainsford. This bits and pieces idea would kill us big time.

Hope Taibu plays more responsibly in the absence of Williams and doesn't resort to reverse sweeping from ball one. And hoping for Mazza to continue his hot batting form.

Chibhabha is quite a surprise here but we are getting used to those. Chibhabha really seems to strugle against slow bowlers. I think we could have select anyone from Sibanda, Rainsford, Mupariwa. These guys have been putting in the performances of late.

Can't agree with Justice Chibhabha's inclusion.

In his place I would have gone with a pace bowler (Mupariwa/Rainsford) or an extra batsman (Sibanda) for his recent excellent domestic performance.

The problem with Sibanda inclusion is that like Chibhabha, Sibanda also struggles with spin, or on slow pitches. Any chance failures in Bangladesh will only set back his confidence further and we’ll be back to square one. Rather wait till the South Africa series, and there will be no looking back afterwards.
In the mean time we have adequate openers. If not Vermuleun, then Fortser Mtizwa. Happily we are no longer desperate anymore.
