What fixtures?

A domestic cricket calendar that starts this late, and is filled with non-FC fixtures?

Hosting loss-making SL(because India C won't come down to spank you), something the "old ZC" used to reject for financial sense?

Plenty of matches against Namibia, Canada, Netherlands etc? Tours to Scotland and Netherlands?

Being humiliated by an SA Emerging side which happens to be the strongest side ZIM have faced, arguably stronger than even the SL who came down?

Unbelievable!

That didn’t last long

An interview of Matsikenyeri about the Rising Stars progress so far: https://www.dailynews.co.zw/articles/20 ... dy-to-soar

And here's something Matsi says towards the end:
The national academy has to got a responsibility obviously to develop young cricketers going forward so these boys when they are done with the season their goal is obviously to get signed by other franchises going forward and we are going to have to go into the Under 19 setup and maybe some other boys that could have missed out at U19 and take on a new class we are going to start all over again with a view of making a massive contribution towards Zimbabwe Cricket at international level.
So, it appears as if every year, the RS team will play the domestic season and players should impress individually and get snapped up by other franchises for next seasons.

I really don’t understand why there is so much negativity towards the ZRS

I think people are being negative about aspects of it. The overall idea is excellent and should have happened years ago. Only the players that are capable of playing FC should be selected from the off-season RS touring squad to play our domestic season. There should be 4 or 5 seasoned players to bolster the side. Also if they can’t find enough decent players to send they should include some better older players that will then enable them to take on better opposition, except if they’ve played FC here they probably won’t get a UK visa.
Unfortunately none of this would be necessary if we had proper club cricket in place and played a full season. Also if we had a local Academy in place how necessary would this all be? It’s an admission of complete failure by ZC combined with an opportunity to once again sideline some loot.

I’ve also seen this year’s possible intake and barring one of two it’s woeful. The cupboard is bare, gentlemen.
The selection process is, as usual, disgraceful. I’m really trying to come up with some positives...
There’s something to look forward to after school for the boys keen on cricket. There is now a clearly defined pathway into FC if you’re a good enough cricketer. Those are two very big positives, but they should already be in place here, if this shower of shite had their act together.

Well they need to see who will be available from the u19’s and who is eligible, there may potentially be a couple of people who won’t get a visa.
What troubles me is that there are two trial days, which presumably are two net sessions. That seems like an odd way of selecting. It should have been a process that took place throughout the year where the right players have already been identified according to performances. The cost per player must be huge, and if they haven’t already identified exactly who is going I question what they’re doing.
