If Waller doesn't score im sure he will be dropped. I think it will be a tight call between Chamu and PJ in the current squad. Don't know if PJ would handle the pace, also don't know if Chamu can handle the spin. I would personally pick Chamu to open with Mire then shift everybody 1 down with Hami at 3. Chamu can also get some overs in unlike PJ.
+1

The only problem is that Hami is one of the few players CAPABLE of opening. I'm a huge fan of his but I do feel that we waste him at times.

I think what you wanted to say is "we sacrifice him'' . The disrespect that's been meted out to Hamilton over the years is unbelievable.

I actually quite like this suggestion. I always feel uneasy when I see Hami opening - it seems crazy to use your most experienced bat against a new cherry and the opposition's quickest bowlers. It's difficult facing the new ball. Surely we should be thinking "at what position can we get the most runs from each player."

Indeed! Get another experimental mole to open with Mire, even if it means its Chibahabha (Or Mtumbami for goodness sake!), shuffle everybody down, (which means Ervine bats at five rather than BT's four and drop Waller. Since hes not bowling unless he makes 80 tmrw he's no value.

I can't see a draw here at any money. (barring a washout)

We need 270 in four sessions. As far fetched as a win on the back of a Taylor 180 is, it is more likely than a draw.

I don't see a draw here either. I just think that now that we've lost the top order we aren't going to blast our way to victory.

Tiring out the bowlers and fielders with some negative cricket for a few sessions? I can see that working. Especially if you've got Cremer tieing up an end for 40 overs making WI think "well, damn there's still 2 batsmen to come".

Classy shot. For what it's worth Jemisi, if Taylor makes 180 Zim will win.

I guess my former favorite Sean Williams really is fickle minded and an unmitigated idiot. No doubt about that now. Gets worked up for everything and doesn't turn that "passion" into any good.

Not fit for Test cricket, find a replacement already!
Middle order spots being wasted while poor Vusi Sibanda looks on.

Yeah, defensive work will still leave us with a rrr of 2.5 tomorrow.

I get the feeling Raza could knuckle down and play out 300 balls at a strike rate of 10 if he pretended he was playing AB de Villiers in the movie adaptation of "Adelaide Oval". He strikes me as a method actor.
As long as he knows what film he's in. :)

Zimbabwe require another 252 runs with 6 wickets remaining.

26 overs remain today.

Under my "bore them into submission strategy", let's say we go at 1.5 pro for the rest of the day. Pure defense - and lets optimistically assume we don't lose a wicket.

213 from 90 overs required tomorrow.

Let's say Raza gets out first over tomorrow because he can't take it any more, advances down the wicket straight into the pavilion.

We send in Cremer.

We deadbat it even more, 1 rpo until lunch.

183 required from 60 overs.

Taylor at the crease on a 80 or so. Cremer has a few runs to his name... he sacrifices himself after lunch going for the bash and gets out.

160 required from 55 overs. 2.90 rrr - Taylor unbeaten, Waller comes to the crease. Chakabva still to come.

Who wins?

I actually think that we've already worn down the Windies to a degree and we should cash in now without getting reckless.
