[Match Thread] U19 WC Plate C'Ship: Zimbabwe vs Namibia
Re: [Match Thread] U19 WC Plate C'Ship: Zimbabwe vs Namibia
I also don't think Mangongo chooses the rising stars so if you have beef with him you should still get picked. Maybe that's what that fast bowler he left behind and maybe even TJS can hope for.

Well if they use the same selectors they could sneak Hammy into the 2020 U19 WC.
Why would Madhevere necessarily be the best captain for 2020? Sure he’d be the most experienced, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’d be the best leader. I’m not saying he’s not any good as a captain, don’t really know him personally.
Why would Shumba only play 10 FC games in the next 2 years? This is our problem right here, he needs to be playing a bunch more than that.

How would you rush Madhevere’s progression here? It’s practically impossible when we play so few games. On the contrary, I think he should get every opportunity and whatever coaching we have, if he’s good enough he will step up, if he isn’t then we move on and try the next one.

What we need is reciprocity with MCC, who are showing interest. We need to offer them something other than sunshine and cancelled games due to mismanagement and they send a couple of guys here every year and we send them one or two for them to look after there. We’d be unbelievably lucky to find someone good enough, but that player would come back with a good game.

Shumba would be a good candidate. I like what he’s got.

I’ve given this some thought, not that my opinion counts
We are wasting our time without our own academy. The other nations have academies in every county/province, yet we don’t even have a national academy! We’re settling for a RS season in the UK with half the boys not being of the necessary caliber. Back in the day the cost and modalities of which would have been for public consumption and would have a direct impact on voting. If it was proven to be a waste of time and money and there were grey areas, people would be accountable. As it stands it’s probably an internal memo for eyes only of a handful of people.
We have the facilities lying idle at Country Club and we have the likes of the Brents and Browns, expert coaches whom I’m sure would be available to coach and manage if they were guaranteed support from ZC.
You select boys for the academy and make them sign a contract that they put in the requisite hours and that they are liable for costs if they leave or quit. From this lot you select a boy for the MCC or for a County Two’s side because there is a reciprocal agreement. Every two years you select a strong side that can tour, it doesn’t have to be England, it can be SA, which is much cheaper, but could actually be anywhere. We didn’t need this tour to unearth Mazarabani and Ngarava and whoever else, it could have been done right here and we’d have a credible Academy as a result.

Some of the 'very ordinary' clubs:Googly wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2018 6:05 amThis is what I’m saying. They’re sending a team over to the uk for a whole season but I’d bet that only Roche, Shumba and Madhevere are available from the ones we’ve correctly identified as being useful. Maybe Shardendorf is also available, but it looks like he’s persona non grata in Mangongo’s books, so that may mean that extends to RS as well? I’m not sure who else is on that RS list but it would be an educated guess that there’s not too many youngsters on the tour that stand a chance of setting it alight. Bear in mind that that most of their games last year were against very ordinary clubs, and I don’t see much merit in that, other than teaching a Zimbo what it feels like to win.![]()
I don’t know the costs of RS in UK for a season vs sending 5 decent players to an academy for 3 months, it’s probably quite similar and I think would be more beneficial.
Warwickshire 2nd XI
Northamptonshire 2nd XI

Have you got a final tally of how they did? That was pretty sharp of RS management to get these games, could not have been easy because they generally have full schedules.
