Aaah Prophet Magaya....
I drive past his house a couple of times a week, rumored to have cost around $8 million. God has been good to him, so has the tax man.

Kenyan cricket has been in decline for 15 years. The 2003 CWC was the peak of a golden generation for them. They have produced little since and will probably never produce a generation like Tikolo, Odoyo, Odumbe, Karim, Obuya, Otieno, etc again.

He really is a class act, this guy.
Very stylish batter indeed and was a more than handy leg spinner in the day.
It does show though, that Kenya really are struggling to reproduce those types of batters and bowlers in Obuya is still playing at 36.
I mean, the guy made his ODI debut on 2001.. :o

Thomas Odoyo and Peter Ongondo were two very good new ball bowlers for the Kenyans as well.
Really is lamentable how this once potentially world beating nation has dropped so far off the radar.
There's hope in Kenya, but our Zimbabwe Under 19's absolutely humped theirs in the recent youth ODI's. We aren't the strongest side but we still seem to be producing half decent cricketers.

I keep saying it, but if we can produce one Ryan Murray, Wez, Roache, Harrison or Shumba a year, we aren't in as bad a shape as perhaps some are saying.

Obviously googly knows these lads and the system better than most, and it would appear that the talent is slowly drying up, but for the time being at least we are still producing cricketers who are showing they have the potential for national success.

I'm still holding out some hope of Malcolm Lake return. He could do a real job in the limited overs stuff for us.
Anybody know of his recent activities, if any?

Don't know if Malcolm Lake is still in Uni or not.. I honestly thought he would have come back by now but it looks he comes from one of those families where he doesn't need to be a cricket star so he has options.

To be fair didn't Hami debut in 2001 as well? :D he has been there for a very long time.

I also agree that you don't need to produce 8 stars in every u19 team. Just 3 top guys out of every 2 year u19 cycle is good enough. Thats why i actually hope they dont make the rising stars get a new set of players every year. This is supposed to be a first class team so for me if they keep 8 or 9 players from the last bunch and add maybe 6 more I would be happy with that. It's impossible to find 15 new guys with real talent every year.

Let guys like Ngarava Mashinge Mupariwa Magarira Kamunhukamwe and Akram go back. Maybe even Mavuta and Mumba straight from his injury or Murray to spend his 6 week break from Uni in June/July (if he goes back)... there is usually no cricket going on around that time in Zim anyway so if you are not close to the national team you might as well go and let the other guys like Mutombodzi Nyauchi etc play any A games that come along.. out of the the current u19 bunch only 4 or 5 guys showed real promise and that's how it should be.

I’m fairly sure he’s finished uni, but have no idea what his plans are. It’s a legal degree so I would guess that he has to do time in a law firm. Had he finished a year earlier he’d definitely have been back putting his hand up for these qualifiers, but I don’t know. He’s a real talent.
