Dear ICC don't play with talented Brian Vitori's Career

Post by Stoneman Returns »

Under the new method of detecting illegal bowling action started by the ICC, many bowlers have been caught with illegal bowling action and has been released after they corrected their bowling actions, credit goes to their board and coaches who has been vocal against ICC for baning their players, when it comes to Zimbabwe, ICC is ruining career of talented Brian Vitori. Till now not a single international left arm pacers has been reported for illegal bowling action, Vitori has been reported thrice now and has been facing ban whenever he is returning back after clearing the test.

Bowlers like Muruli, Botha, Taskin, Senanayaka, Samuels, Hafeez all has cleared their bowling action and has resumed bowling, its harsh on Vitori who has been targeted by ICC as ZC is less vocal in this kind of issues.

What happened with his case after he was suspended? Did he just give up? We desperately need him back. Its sad to look back and think that the squad we had for the qualifiers was probably the strongest and will remain the strongest we can field for a while. Yet we still didnt cross the line.

He needs to change his action otherwise they’ll call him again, problem is he gets his pace and late swing from his dodgy action so very doubtful he’d be as effective with a new action.

It’s astonishing how many bowlers have an illegal action here in Zim. The junior ranks are full of kids who are outright chuckers. With that slo-motion app on an iPhone you can pick it up straight away. And you don’t have to invite some expert to come and take a look, you just Whatsapp him the clip. When you see an older kid with a chuck it’s inexcusable, it just shows poor coaching and often someone lacking the balls to make the call. I watched a game a while ago where the opposing umpire/coach called a kid immediately for throwing. He was absolutely right and it’s such a poor reflection on that child’s coach, and embarrassing for everyone involved.

There’s a tall really athletic youngster who’s quite keen on cricket, who could bowl really quick, but he chucks it. I’ve watched him off and on since Grade 5, that’s 7 years and 7 different coaches, all of whom are supposedly half good and not one of them has even so much as attempted to get this kid’s action sorted. I asked him the other day and he said one coach once bandaged a stick against his arm for a couple of overs to see if that would help
These schoolboy coaches, with one or two exceptions are an absolute waste of space. They just don’t seem to want to even be there.

Is it really that surprising considering there aren’t enough qualified coaches in the country ?

Even the ones with legal actions that come through to the national team have technical flaws, that’s why we have about 20 blokes who all bowl medium pace and can’t swing the ball.

In my experience the youngsters automatically chuck, and it takes quite a lot of repetition to overcome the instructions their brains want to send to their arms.

Most of cricket is just repetition. I hardly ever see any kid trying to genuinely bowl fast these days. They all trundle up to the wicket and bowl within themselves, favoring accuracy over pace. Then all of a sudden at first team level you see a few of them suddenly bending their backs, but prior to that they were content to amble in, it’s a recipe for injury. I’m tired of whingeing about our schoolboy cricket and I’m sure most are tired of listening.
We’re shit, maybe half a dozen kids with any genuine ability and half of those understandably have no interest becoude there’s nothing to practice for unless they want an overseas scholarship.
