[Match Thread] Zimbabwe vs South Africa, 2nd ODI
Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe vs South Africa, 2nd ODI
It isn't that hard to find a balance. We drop Chigs and stick in 1 youngster. Blessing has already dropped himself and Mavuta is getting a game. Two youngsters at once is plenty to produce measured generational change.

How many youngsters to do you want in the XI Zimbo_05?? And which experienced guys are you ready to turf?
Interesting to see what your ideal XI looks like with the blended youth ??
Comparing Zimbabwe playing Kamunhukamwe or Murray against South Africa on these pitches to India debuting Prithniv Shaw against that Windies side on that pitch is a joke surely?? You’re taking the piss right?
If Zimbabwe had someone like Shaw in their ranks he’d be playing every game, Shaw is a freak. But they’ve found the best way possible to blood him, this Windies side would lose to Zimbabwe (Roach & Holder out) they suck and this pitch they’re on is as flat as you will get.
Apples with apples please

He’s an incredible talent. I love watching this young man bat.

I completely missed this post, my bad. Yes, I targeted the experienced players, but I'm not silly enough to demand a complete overhaul, and I understand the game quite well. I have never demanded a complete overhaul of the side. I demanded an overhaul of the admin side (including grassroots, structures, domestic, board etc, essentially a whole new ZC).jaybro wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 4:37 am
In this post you clearly target the 'experienced core' that is the current squad, then in your latest post you just ask for Murray to be brought in for Chigs.
Hard to keep up with you sometimes tbh.
If it's just swapping Murray for Elton I'm ok with that as I've posted, but a total overhaul of the batting lineup will do nobody any good, if we want Tari, Kamunhakamwe, Murray, Burl, Roche etc to progress we need them playing lots and lots of cricket against good opposition and have them filtered into the side at the right time. It might be a case of reserving two spots for the batting lineup for younger players at all times so the experienced guys will have to fight it out for the other five spots.
I think we're getting too carried away with these last two games, I'm sure Pakistan and Sri Lanka would have been bowled out for cheap on these decks.
As for your argument about Blessing when it comes to bowling it's a whole different kettle of fish, pick your seamers when they're young and quick they'll learn on the run and adjust as they get older and lose their pace. If we had a 19 year old fast bowler who could hit 140 I'd have him in their asap.
I'm only asking that you bring in Murray for Chigs for this series. Simple. For the series going forward, that requires forward planning and thinking.
Based on the current set up, I would have Kamu in instead of Hammy or Mire, and Murray in over Chigs. That is all I would tinker with. Moor is fighting for his spot with Murray once Raza is back.jaybro wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 6:15 amHow many youngsters to do you want in the XI Zimbo_05?? I know the Indian pitches are roads, the point is that there is no argument for saying a youngster is too inexperienced to play. Inexperience is more in the decision making, which a lot of our 'experienced' guys are making school boy errors. Yes, he is a great talent, but it's not only about him. It's the point of what happens when you blood youngsters and bring them through. You answered it yourself, they have been blooding him and found a way to bring him in. We had that perfect opportunity, but instead we chose Chigs.
Funny you say that forgetting that you are talking about the Zimbabwe side who just got bowled out for 78. We can barely beat associates, no chance we would be favourites against WI.
I'm just trying to make the point of how long do we persist with 'experience' when we keep losing games badly. Yes, it was a tough pitch to play on, but that is part and parcel of the game. You learn to play on all pitches. You prepare for all the match types. This includes the youngsters. No need to shelter them. You put a young lad on the field and he faces some good bowling. He goes out, you coach him. You teach him. You mentally toughen him up. If that is not happening, then the whole coaching system in Zim is wrong. It needs to be overhauled and done away with. This is an international sport. No need to baby the players. You want to play at the highest level, you prepare for it. You practice for it, and you deal with what comes with it, bowler friendly pitches included.
@Jemisi, i realise your last post was agreeing. I was at uni in the middle of an assignment when I read it and clearly not thinking straight.

i think the same way we blooded the young mavuta in these conditions is just the same way we need to do to musakanda(who sadly will play the T20s) and murray to see how they can fare in these conditions. its one thing to have fear that they will fail and another not to even try at all, we have nothing to lose, i am sure one of Moor/Chigs would have been sacrificed to try out the young guns in the dead rubber. we already tried out the young Wezha and Mavuta, and we saw what they have to offer, i expect them to try out Murray and that is the only way we can find out how technically good they are and if anything, correct the deficiencies. exposing the youngsters to such conditions is the way to go and we should have an eye on the future!

I don’t understand them leaving Tari out. All ZC have ever wanted is a decent young black batsman and they finally get one and don’t play him? It’s inexplicable. By the time he’s a regular in all formats he’ll be 26 at this rate. There’s no way Elty and Chigs should be getting the nod ahead of Tari.
I’d have Murray in the side as well.
I see the Peterhouse youngster at Eastbourne got another double hundred recently as well. They cannot lose this kid. You don’t crack two double hundreds in a season against decent schoolboy opposition unless you’re a damned fine player.
