Re: [Match Thread] Bangladesh v Zimbabwe : 3 day Practice Match
I guess the fact we haven’t played a Test in 10 months will throw up some different lineups, but seriously lads John Nyumbu???
As is usually the case for Zimbabwe the pitch will indicate what lineup we play, and IIRC Kriterion said this pitch at Slyhet is the best for seamers in Bangladesh??
If so I think they will go with 3 seamers and this will be their lineup
Chari
Hami
Ervine/Burl/Moor
BT
Williams
Raza
Regis wk
Tiripano
Mavuta
Jarvis
Chatara
Personally I’d have Burl or Moor opening with Hami but I think the selectors want Chari and it’s a shoot out between Ervine, Moor & Burl for the last batting spot.
Tiripano is an eachway bet because his batting is strong, but his bowling isn’t very dangerous so the question is, ‘is he worth a spot’?
I’m also not convinced about Regis because his keeping for the spinners is suspect as we all know, is it worth batting BT @6 and getting him to keep?
The spinning department is also a point for concern with Cremer not available who do they pick as the front line spinner? And do they pick two front line spinners considering they have Williams, Raza and possibly Burl to bowl some overs?
It looked like Mavuta was a walk up start after his impressive start in South Africa, but his inability to bowl the bowl in the right place consistently was taken advantage of by the BD batsman. Personally I still think he’s worth a try in front of Nyumbu & Wellington who offer nothing with the bat & I doubt will run through the Bangladeshi batsman, with Raza & Williams there I think it’s safer to play 1 spinner and the extra batsman/bowler Tiripano.
Looking at the squad there are only 5 players certain to play (barring injury) Hamilton to open, a middle order of BT, Williams & Raza and also Jarvis to open the bowling. The rest of the make up of the squad was probably depending on the warm up game and the pitch.
For what it’s worth this is the XI I’d go with
Burl
Hamilton
Ervine
BT
Williams
Raza
Regis
Moor / Tiripano (depending on the pitch)
Mavuta
Jarvis
Chatara

Masakadza
Tiripano
Ervine
Taylor
Williams
Raza
Moor
Chakabva
Mavuta
Mpofu
Jarvis
Bats down to 9. Not happy having Mavuta there but only meaningful option available. Lot of bowling to be done by Williams and Raza.
This is also the first time I have kept Chatara out of any XI I have put up, as his 5 day match fitness is unknown and 2 and a half pacers are good enough anyway in BD.

Taylor departs. Ervine's poor form continues
Re: [Match Thread] Bangladesh v Zimbabwe : 3 day Practice Match
Good to see the boys aren’t wasting their form in the warm up game

Chari, Ervine & BT all out cheaply, I think Ervine is in great danger of being dropped for this match especially if Moor or Burl make runs in this match.

Ngarava is tall but he releases the ball at the same point as a much shorter bowler . If he can make himself as tall as possible when he releases the ball he would be more effective

I would still pick Ervine in test matches. Its sad what has happened. How does one go from being the star batsman for about 2 years to this
If the pitch is seamer friendly would it be a risk if we dropped Mavuta and played Mpofu Jarvis Tiripano and Chatara?Raza and Williams would cover the spin gap
