In all honesty, I don't think he has improved his game in the way he should have. He was a good young cricketer with a willingness to learn and good technique. Seems like at some point he just got lazy and stuck with whatever he felt in the moment.
Tell me one player that has done in the Zimbabwe system???
Even BT he would have been a much better player with a higher average if he were in a good system, and looking at their numbers in Tests, Hamilton stacks up just as good as BT.
Until ZC can produce a good system capable of improving players I can't be too harsh on the guys.
I've been a big critic for a long while (also Sean Williams), but both these guys impressed me with their solidity, especially Williams.
Overall, I'm obviously disappointed we lost, and even when we were 130-6 I thought we had a shot of chasing down 321 because the field settings were terribly defensive given the position of the game. Bangladesh could have knocked singles around with just 2 men in catching positions and an ODI field with men just guarding the boundaries. But old habits died hard, and every time BD had a nice little 20 run partnership going, they slogged for big hit and got out. Das, Kayes, Riyad, Mushfiq, and Shanto all got out trying to hit a boundary when they were scoring singles so fluidly. Thats the sad part about it.
But despite that, I'm pleased for the ZIM fans and players. Especially if it knocks some sense into BD's approach.

Don't get me wrong. I'm happy with the win. I just don't think a player like Hamilton can blame the system wholly.
I remember his test innings and remember what I saw. For a player of that calibre to not have kicked on in the way he should have says a lot, not about the system, but the mentality of the player and their personal development.
It’s human nature to feed off your peers. When Flower was playing he dragged everyone up because he was so single minded in his determination to be the best and he believed. The toughest thing is putting in the hard yards in practice when your team mates only show commitment in bursts and they all really have their own agendas, not least of which is just surviving here and trying to make plans to ensure you’re not left holding an empty can at the end of your career.
I have heard that PJ really puts in effort to be the best he can be, and I know that other guys often get side tracked for extended periods. In a better environment we might one day see someone that does bat for a couple of hours a day and set a better precedent.
Yea I was going to say, he can always say he captained his side to their first oversees test victory since 2001.
I love that photo. Did anybody watch that game, his debut knock? At the ground, on TV maybe? Would have loved to have seen how his technique has evolved, if at all.
Not sure if it was televised at all. Some clippings would have emerged on YouTube by now if that test match was televised?
I watched every minute of it; poor first innings total and a mammoth second innings, starting with Masakadza's century.
There's a fast West Indies lad that broke Tatenda Taibu's stumps in that match.
Blignaut was also bowled for 92 trying to his the ball for 8. Lol
Alistair Campbell got his 2nd and last Test that innings as well
Wasn't he supposed to have had as much, if not more, natural ability than Andy Flower? I never saw Campbell bat but my grandad always said he was silky when on song. He said Grant Flower was a grinder, whislt Andy and Campbell were the most fluent in stroke play. The there were the utlitly players in Whittall, Wishart and Carlisle who batted around them

Campbell did his best work in the ODI format with 7 hundreds, from reading recollections from former players they had no answers for his struggles in tests
