[Match Thread] Zim v IRL: ODI 1
Re: [Match Thread] Zim v IRL: ODI 1
What people aren’t talking about is that it’s looking worse each time we play more because everyone else is getting better each passing year, rather than us getting worse, which we are but they’re getting better faster than we’re getting worse, if you know what I mean. That youngster Banton got a 12 ball 50 last week against decent bowling in a club game. He’s 18 I believe.

Re: [Match Thread] Zim v IRL: ODI 1
Zimbabwe is getting worse as fast as other teams are getting better. What is of most concern is Zimbabwe Cricket doesn't have a plan.
When England embarrassed themselves at the 2015 WC they immediately and completely restructured their ODI strategy. Today they are WC favs.(they had a plan)
Sri Lanka lost 3-2 to Zimbabwe sacked their captain even amidst board troubles they reacted. They beat SA 2-0 in Feb, narrowly missed out on WC Semi Final.
Afghanistan refused to play Zimbabwe don't think there is any more of an indictment on the state of Zimbabwe Cricket.
Just to balance things Cricket South Africa haven't planned for the departures of players to county cricket and hence we all predicted their aging squad doing nothing much at this years WC and with half the team retiring after the WC, (certainly far more professional than ZC) CSA must have some sort of a plan.
What is the short medium long term plan? Continue bashing it out with yesteryear Masakadza's, Mpofu's etc? Ofcourse we are because there isnt a plan.

Exactly right there is no plan, if ZC were serious they'd be looking at what they had to do to have the side in the best shape possible to qualify for the 2023 WC (which looks very unlikely) but they're still picking guys who won't be there for the qualifiers!!!!Free Spirit wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 8:34 pmZimbabwe is getting worse as fast as other teams are getting better. Zim only looking worse because other teams are getting better is the same thing as Zim getting worse. It means they haven’t the intelligence/guile/skill to adapt the same way everyone else is. If everyone else is riding a wave that’s getting progressively higher and everyone else is doing it ok and we aren’t we are the problem .
If a profitable business from 1995 still uses dial up internet and refuses to move into cable or ADSL like everyone else is and are falling behind, you think they are a stupid organisation, not ‘everyone else is getting better’.
Other teams have got to our level and then progressed, we stood still. Another analogy is the half retarded kid stuck in Year 3 when everyone else his age has moved up.
After all that, I’d argue though that Ireland haven’t improved really either. They have experienced a big talent drain themselves.

Re: [Match Thread] Zim v IRL: ODI 1
Just saw this post and spot on. Even myself, I’ve found my standards dropping a lot further than I used to be. I now see someone like Mpofu as a class above the rest bowler in Zimbabwe. And before I never truly rated Vitori. Now I think he would be a gem.brmtaylor.com admin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 2:55 pmYeah, our team is basically the same as it was 10 years ago.ZIMDOGGY wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 1:00 pmI just can’t stop thinking about how this zim team will look in 4 years when Hamilton, Solomon, Craig, Sean, Raza, BT, Elton, Chamu (if not already) Regis, Tino, Mpofu are all retired, almost at once and Jarvis and Chats are either retired or well past their best.
This shit is beyond scary.
Then it was too young and inexperienced. Now it's too old and past it.
At least in the intervening years we had a few moments when it all clicked. Tests vs BD and Pakistan, a few ODI upsets like Australia and NZ.
Hard to see those days returning. Does anyone really think in a few years time K-Long and Murray are going to blast us to a one-off victory against Australia? We'll still be putting all of our hopes in a 38-yo Taylor to dial back the clock and get us over the line.
How unbelievably bad is the bowling going to get too, there's nothing coming through the ranks. We'll be looking back fondly on the Mpofu years of 1/65 from 10 overs. The batsmen can probably play to 40+ but the seam bowlers can't.
Depressing.
It’s because the standards are lowering. Maybe we can be a spin based outfit?
Although. I do hold out hope that a miracle player can emerge from the bush as a bowler. It’s more reliant on natural talent than batsman. Batters, there’s no question we will need to import. Byrom, Welch, Rouse, Murray, Muyeye, we will need to throw big money too. Then just hope some bush nigga has a 140 km arm, with coaches doing the rest.
