I'd replace Ives with Malcolm Lake though, adds more depth with the pip if you have Liam Roche there.

Ffs it's killing me that we can't have an XI looking like that

8 white players in a Zimbabwe side now is just unheard of. 8 white men in Zimbabwe is equally as unheard of

Where is Shane Snyder ? ZRS stars T Tsiga and T Mupriwa looked technically correct in their innaugral participation in domestic cricket.

Well you can see why Mangongo is persona non grata with opinions like that.
He will be getting anonymous death threats round about now. He’s 1000% correct though.
Nobody has seen Matigimu for a while, if he was that good he’d surely be in the Titans first team by now because he’s been in sA a long time and should be eligible? Im confused about that.
Roche was decent, but I’d think international cricket might be a step too far. He’s direct competition with Madhevere who looks to have huge potential and Shumba. He’s probably not dissimilar to Shumba
Muyeye is fantastic, but we haven’t seen him against good men’s bowling. I’m sure he’d be great, but you have to see first.
Lake could have been a huge asset, but I’m wondering why he’s taken his foot off the pedal. I can only think that he’s finishing doing his articles? His father has bought a huge insurance Co in the UK and he could walk into a massive job and may well have done so already. He’s unbelievably talented, but he’d need to take several teaspoons of cement daily before he did his abilities any justice at the higher levels.
Chisoro vs Ives? I’d take Chisoro all day until Ives proved himself.
The two guys that we know can play up are Byrom and Welch, because they’ve been at it for 5 years. Byrom in particular is really coming right. Welch is waiting for his passport and then we’ll see how he goes in professional cricket. Byrom has had a three year head start on him and there’s a bit of catch up. In an equal world these two would be opening for Zim right now, although Welch would be better at 4/5/6 in red ball.
I’ve always said how good Murray is as a keeper, but as a batsman is he better than Moor or Reggie? I don’t think so, well not yet anyway. He’s wasted years dicking around playing Uni cricket.
Evans is a good bowler, he’s not the mystery 140 bowler we’re looking for though. It would be good to see him matched up against our current crop of seamers. He’s always looks so promising as a batsman but never makes runs. He’s been treated unfairly because he always bats at the tail.

These fantasy teams are always fun, but we do our National guys a disservice because there are some good players there. It’s a game of inches and the top flight cricket is extremely tough.

The step up is difficult because there is a mental aspect to it. Its not just about ability. i think PJ is a good example of a guy who dominated school cricket but is not finding it that easy at the highest level. Lake dominated schools cricket like PJ. so you can never be sure that anybody will live up to their potential on the big stage.

This problem to me can actually be tracked back to a lack of tough cricket at a younger age like Mangongo is pointing out. The example I can give is that Wesley looked a lot tougher than the rest of the u19s probably because the standard is 5x higher in SA than Zim. Imagine the carnage that happens every time Myers plays school cricket here. A tougher environment would have made him a better player. Its the first sign of how mentality comes into the step up because for me Wes is not the most talented kid we had, just the most prepared.

What Mangongo is saying is also why I'm a bit sceptical of making Wes open. He could get an unplayable delivery from Mustafizur and that could really kill his confidence or he could kill it. Fine margins

He throws it though mate, he won't last an over if he was by some miracle to be selected.
A family friend said there's a 17 year old at Falcoln? Supposed to be sharp, a white lad and quite tall. Any names googly?

Fair enough. I saw a 2 second clip but he just looked quick.

Mangongo talking sense once again. I agree with everything he’s said here
I know right. i read this and was thinking, "never thought id agree with this guy"

I think Mangongo wants what is best for Zim cricket. He loves the sport and the game, but perhaps his methods are where I don't agree, and his sometimes falling in to that "using race" bracket.

It's obvious Wes is a talent, but there is no system to bring players through. right now England A are in Aus playing against Aus A, CAXI and domestic sides. These sides have included the likes of Sibley, Jennings, Bess, Overton, Khawaja, Maddinson, Patterson, Henriques....all players who have played at the top level, but here they are for the A sides.

Development is crucial and doing it properly is vital. If you mess it up, you just continue a cycle of failure. It's clear that the guys in charge do not have a single idea what they are doing. Players will play 1 or 2 games then just disappear. What ever happened to Roche? What ever happened to Matigimu/Ives/Scadendorf/Byrom/Welch?

ZC will thrust a guy in to the side and when he does not play well, they just discard them. The amount of players we have lost is scary. We could have a genuinely 2 or 3 sides, but we don't all because of the failure at the top.

Coventry too is a failure. She's done nothing as a Sports Minister. I know government is not allowed to interfere in terms of removing the board. but they can develop systems and programmes. Provide funding for academies and investment. The sports minister should be talking to these guys and demanding results and setting up KPIs. It really is just a constant stream of disappointment and failure.
