Since you ruled out other options I was thinking of from eugene's posts and I felt it certainly could not be BAC, took a stab in the dark to be honest...

Very good guess mate. The photo itself was taken during a tour from Ireland, in 1986. Check out the gallery below :)

Note Graeme Hick totting up a meagre triple century!

571. Who is the former promising Zimbabwe Academy all rounder, who was one of those many people that abandoned cricket as a career option just around the turn of the millennium?

That is quite the gallery of photos, none of which I had seen before. Quite interesting to read about the tour here: https://www.cricketeurope.com/DATABASE/ ... 0499.shtml

None of the above, unfortunately. The chap top left is Mark Burmester.
I thought about Burmester yesterday because he was the right age, found a rare photo of him, and stored it for future use. I only saw the thumbnail pic and never looked at it properly after downloading :)

That's correct.

@sloandog,

1. Did you get to see him play live once he moved to UK? How was his bowling?
2. I checked out his stats and he probably could have been better than someone like Travis Friend if he had continued. Who knows? https://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/c ... 55828.html

572. Another former academy player with a handful of FC and List A appearances to his name. Who is he?
