I have watched quite a bit of Chari and it is easy to see where his problems are. In domestic cricket he will score a lot of his runs in boundaries. This suggests that he does not have the ability to rotate the strike.

He also went to the UK two summers ago and played in the West of England Premier League which is a decent standard but not as competitive as many of the leagues in the UK. He averaged about 32 with the bat. He is never going to score consistent runs at this level as he never has at any level in his career.

That may be the case but I'd rather them giving him a go than chibhabha.

Otherwise Zim will have an issue like Kenya when Taylor, ervine etc retire.

I find it hard to believe he's the best opener we've got.
You cannot have hard hands as an opener at this level.
And the defend defend then big shot mentality also won't work very often.
They'd may as well open with Ervine and find yet another all rounder.

I don't know why he needed to hit that in the air with the big boundary.

I'm looking forward to Madhevere, Pakistan will have a better game plan for him now. Your first innings will be the easiest.

If they have game plans? If they haven't greeted Williams with a couple of overs of chin music, they're not thinking

He's not the best opener we've got, he's just a perennial selectors favourite for some reason - just like Maruma and Dabengwa etc. There's always one who defies logic.

I'd open with Raza, give your best players as long as possible at the crease. I think he's being wasted at 7.

:6: :6: good over against Wasim.

Raza will not cope with the new ball, take poison on that.
Madhevere is an opener by trade but this is next level and he looks very weak outside off against raw pace, but I think he's good enough to sort that out and he will at some point be tried out there, probably out of desperation. Let him build his confidence where he is now for the time being.
Same as Shumba, he doesn't have the technique to open against 140. Again he's decent, but he will struggle. I'll bet he gets a T20 as opener.

Raza's opened plenty of times before, he's capable of scoring hundreds from that position. Chari isn't, and if we're being brutally honest neither are Chibhabha, K-Long, etc.

So may as well have a Chigumbura like slogger down at number 7 who on his day could get a 15 ball 30, and get your skilled batsman Raza up the order where he's got time to make some runs and fill a hole that is a problem for us right now.

Agree about Madhevere, over time promote him absolutely. But while he's starting out (and having success) leave him in the middle order.
Hopefully Shumba gets a chance this series, it'll be good to see how he goes.
