1st Test | Zimbabwe V/s Pakistan | Harare

The Kasuza, Musakanda, Burl generation is also letting us down badly. None of them have stepped up with the bat and it’s beginning to show now

True! I still feel Wes should play the second test in the middle order. That kid has talent, getting out with zeros after facing less than 4 balls all series is not a measure to conclude that he is not ready for test cricket. Maybe in all 3 innings had he gone out for scores like 12 of 27 balls, 3 of 14 balls, 13 of 9 balls then you can start seeing a meaningful pattern.
For now the ducks of 1 or 2 balls means he remains a 'debutant' and can actually still do well. The reason he was chosen to play in those tests still applies. So if Williams is back i'd go with,
Prince
Wes (the chakabva problem then forces me to have him open)
Taylor
Williams
Shumba
Kaia
Regis
Don
TC
Blessing
Richard

If having three innings to show yourself, including breaks in between those innings and arguably one of which he had no pressure, is not a measure, then you all are just intent on blindly feeding Wes to the wolves.CholeZimbo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 7:22 amgetting out with zeros after facing less than 4 balls all series is not a measure to conclude that he is not ready for test cricket.

Many batsmen have had pairs on debut , were not dropped and went onzimbos_05 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 7:39 amIf having three innings to show yourself, including breaks in between those innings and arguably one of which he had no pressure, is not a measure, then you all are just intent on blindly feeding Wes to the wolves.CholeZimbo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 7:22 amgetting out with zeros after facing less than 4 balls all series is not a measure to conclude that he is not ready for test cricket.

Many of those players had decent domestic practice and play in the format, as well as proper coaching and training structures.CholeZimbo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 7:56 am

I hope Kaia gets a bowl sometime soon.

But Zimbo, those 3 ducks are not a measure of not being able to live up to the rigours of test cricket as we all know them. He had a bad series, and what he showed in that t20 against a similar world class attack and also away in Pak is enough for me for now to conclude that he can bat. All he needs is to get in by playing a few more balls in the test match and he looks like someone who without scoreboard pressure can score big runs.zimbos_05 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 8:01 amMany of those players had decent domestic practice and play in the format, as well as proper coaching and training structures.CholeZimbo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 7:56 am

He is worth a try in this team but he is far more inexperienced in test/long form cricket. That is a fact. All his junior cricket would have been one day games.

The question is now that Wes is not in the playing XI...is he getting access to this proper coaching and training structure as we speak?
