Hard to Judge how many Runs are required on this surface it looks like a 300 runs surface

This says it all!
And it’s frankly, Low hanging fruit in terms of rectifying it.
I often see people here critizing rajput for those who don't know rajput is a Mumbai stalwart. Has played 110 first class matches for Mumbai at an average near 50 ..it is often said getting into the Mumbai team is tougher than getting into Indian team. He coached Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season . Lot of young kids in Mumbai and from u19 have trained under rajput ..he was the manager of the winning Indian team in 2007 wc T20 (they didn't have any coach then) so he was unofficially coaching them ..problem is Zimbabwe have very few resources ..and he is working best ..under him zim won an odi and t20 against pak ..a full strength zim team will definitely give tough fight to the likes of ban wi Sri
Rajput is supposedly a nice guy and I hear he is popular with the players. The problem is, he spends way too much time outside of Zim.

I hear he has actually been in Zimbabwe/with the squad since January at the moment which is good and is an improvement.

But for the first two years of him being involved, he flew in 2 days before a series and then flew out the day after it finished. I doubt he attended a single domestic game in all of that time. That’s the problem for me. Maybe that has changed this season due to Covid forcing him to stay in one place.
Either way we need a full time coach who is working with Zim players year-round
what!! that is crazy.
flying in 2 days before a test series. what value is that?

Just a nice little interesting stat

Pakistan Batting Coach: 115 tests at an avg of 52
Zim Batting Coach: 8 tests at an avg of 23

Pakistan Bowling Coach: 87 tests at an avg of 23. 373 wickets
Zim bowling coach: 9 tests at an avg of 36. 21 wickets
This says it all!

The Wes playing tests question is an interesting one. All the talent in the world but he has only played 6 FC games of which 2 were test matches. We had a very short Logan Cup. The other side of the coin is Kaia who doesn’t have a great FC average but he has played 60 FC games and is 29. He didn’t look out of place.

Would I keep him in the squad to learn? Yes. Would he have played this game? Yes. Does he play when we are at full strength? I’m not sure. He would have to open. Would he be a better pick than Prince who is old? Yes. Is there a chance he will get out early? Yes

Why is Shumba only bowling now. Any why hasn't Kaia bowled yet for an over or two at least. Bad captaincy.

The problem for Wes is with such a short Logan cup each year how much will he learn in the next few years? County or grade would help Wes but because he plays odis is there a time in the off season he can do that? I'm sure Zim will have some down time at some point just not this year.

Maybe we just have to accept he may be a good test product in 5 years and for now he is a good short form player.

Cam green from Australia is same age but he has played a lot of shield and grade long form.

After facing just 4 balls in test cricket, I say give him one more game. Our domestic first class will not really develop him. either you are good or you are not in Zim cricket at international level. He has faced Shaheen et al already and has been top class against them. Facing Shingi et al in domestic cricket will not help him much, that should just be for practice and game time for him.

It's about protecting him. He probably IS good enough to be in this XI considering the injuries and considering how poor our openers are. BUT his poor Afghanistan series will have already dented his confidence. He's so young remember.

Realistically we all knew before this series - including the selectors - we are going to get beat. Heavily. Do you throw Wes to the wolves again in such a series? That would destroy his confidence further.

It's better to throw Prince & Kasuza to those wolves because we all know and the selectors know that they aren't the future. Protect Wes and put him into the team when we have some senior guys back and when we have a higher chance of playing well.

I think Wes will be back for the Bangladesh series in June/July for sure.
