As a left field idea, what about BT as a playing batting coach?
good way to top up his salary and keep him interested for a few more years. hes too old to learn new tricks anyway youd think.

Re: The future of the coaching staff
Meh. Anyone can sound nice in an interview. His job is coaching, not interviews, so thats how he should be judged.
It's a results business. It's convenient and lucky that he does have a fair few excuses out of his control that he can fall back on. But he's been here for three years now and we haven't made any progress at all. Do I think the national team would be putting in significantly better performances on the field right now under Rajput's leadership if we hadn't have been suspended two whole years ago? Not really, no.
Maybe if he had bothered to attend a single Logan Cup game in his first two seasons in charge or seemingly make any effort at all in those first two years I'd have more sympathy. He only seems to have bothered living in the country, conducting interviews with the press, or making any real effort in the past six months; conveniently in the run up to his contract needing an extension.
Time to move on.

Just like all those nrl players that become superstars in contract year and get a 4 year deal and go to sleep the next two, rev up in the third and a superstar in the fourth again.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 4:04 pmMeh. Re: The future of the coaching staff
Grant Flower for me would be the ideal senior coach. Serious workaholic. I think he is ready to be more than a batting coach but after what happened last time I dont think he trusts these guys.
Tino Mawoyo as well I think deserves a bigger role at ZC. Maybe video analyst/batting coach with Grant Flower as the senior coach. I think that would work. The bowling coach has to be an import. We need 2 coaches for spin and pace respectively

Tino does have an international test century at leastTapsC2 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:48 amGrant Flower for me would be the ideal senior coach. Serious workaholic. I think he is ready to be more than a batting coach but after what happened last time I dont think he trusts these guys.

Tino has a good cricketing brain. I like the idea of him as an analyst or advisor.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:48 amGrant Flower for me would be the ideal senior coach. Serious workaholic. For a bowling coach you only really need one. Having too many will create problems in terms of direction and coaching plan. You could argue about having one coach for pace and one for spin. There are clear options from among our neighbours, but I fear not much will change as long as the current ZC board stay in charge.
If they are issuing 1 month ultimatums, but then not willing to fix the actual problems, we could get a coaching dream team and still have issues i bet.

Re: The future of the coaching staff
We won't have seen the last of Grant Flower.
I've heard rumblings he isn't overly happy where he is.
He'd be a fantastic choice for head coach.
He's Zimbabwean, a local legend, has the coaching experience. It's just weather he trusts ZC right now and if ZC would like in his direction.
I still think Gary Brent is the most obvious candidate though. Man, this guy just can't seem to get a break

There isn’t a lot of countries that are words to live in than Zim right now, but I asssume Pakistan is definitely one of them.sloandog wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 1:58 pmWe won't have seen the last of Grant Flower.

They should chase him hard.
This is how you headhunt. Sniff opportunities when discontent is happening.

Re: The future of the coaching staff
I'm not sure, but I sense there is some bad blood between ZC and Brent still? Is he considered too close to Campbell? Not really sure.sloandog wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 1:58 pmWe won't have seen the last of Grant Flower.

He's still with Sri Lanka, isn't he? ZC is probably more stable than SLC at the moment tbf. They are in a right mess. He's just had Covid too. Probably not enjoying himself there.
If they go with Grant as head coach I'd like to see a really top excellent bowling coach to assist him. I don't think Grant has ever been a head coach, has he? Would need help with bowling from someone really good.

Whoever th coach is should choose his assitsants, thats how its usually done isnt ?secretzimbo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 2:19 pmI'm not sure, but I sense there is some bad blood between ZC and Brent still? i wonder what james franklin is up too? he went from an international pace bowler batting at 11 to a top line #3 batsman, so he would know a thing or two.
