Sean Williams to retire from Zimbabwe cricket
Re: Sean Williams to retire from Zimbabwe cricket
If Rajput is the reason then it's a no brainer really, he has already applied for many jobs while coaching Zimbabwe.. He will run away the moment he gets a better job. Williams is loyal to ZC since 17 years.

Re: Sean Williams to retire from Zimbabwe cricket
The intrigue only grows...my thoughts:
1) Williams is saying Wessley might be next to walk out!!! That is certainly massive. If true, where do the other seniors (Taylor, Raza, Ervine) fit in? What does it mean for Myers, Shumba, and Marumani???
2) How bad must things be if a coach forces a senior player out? Despite the reports, I feel there is still more to the story.
3) Cricinfo's article had an interesting point about "senior players" (presumably the Big 4) expressing doubts that ZIM will qualify for the 2023 World Cup...surely, losing confidence this far out from the tourney - by the team's best players - does not bode well for Zimbabwe's chances...
4) What kind of coach does Williams expect, and how much of a difference does he think a better coach would make? Whatmore, Mangongo, Streak, and Rajput all got very similar results.

Heath Streak was sacked for not qualifying for the WC despite Zimbabwe punching above their weight in the qualifiers and before that (beating Sri Lanka in ODI series, getting Taylor, Jarvis back, etc.) and Rajput gets an extension for one of the most pathetic performances In Zimbabwe's cricket history.
Dav Whatmore, when he was sacked said, ZC won't survive for long because of the unprofessional people running it. He was right.

If this is a boycott then Wes going would be massive.
ZC will have bo reason to hold on to Rajput.
The timing makes sense now I think about it.
However if he has signed a contract, then a big payout would have to occur.

Re: Sean Williams to retire from Zimbabwe cricket
I hadn't realized that on their last European tour a full strength ZIM team lost 0-5 to both Ireland and Netherlands. It was during the World Cup and hence flew right under my radar (I'm sure I was posting in the threads, but I totally don't remember this series even happening).
In that context, you can rest assured your fears will almost certainly not come to be.

Williams say Wesley may go. Is that just theoritically? Where would he go to? South African domestic cricket?
Re: Sean Williams to retire from Zimbabwe cricket
On the other side i'm Thinking if Rajput's contract has not been extended yet then this is a good move by the senior players, it will put immense pressure on ZC to remove Rajput and it may just happen after this series.

Re: Sean Williams to retire from Zimbabwe cricket
Seems like we may be facing yet another financial crisis as well.
Claims that in the recent training camp in Harare before departure for Ireland, the entire squad was given a grand total of 9 cricket balls and told there would be no replacements. Net sessions were curtailed as a result.
Also claims that players were not provided with any food or refreshments during the camp due to costs, and told to bring their own from home lol.

I bet they use expensive kookas to train with. Nothing wrong/unusual with bringing lunch from home per se
