Shumba was both player of the match and player of the series. Talked quite well and confidently in post match presentation. Possibly still running high on adrenaline as he spoke:

Yeah lol did he say thanks man at the end? Really unusual accent for me though. Is the old Zimbabwean accent that guys like Sean Williams and Dion Myers have confined to a small minority?

That’s a white Zimbabwe accent, which is similar to British and a like a softer South African

Dion Myers I believes speaks like that too. Is the accent just confined to the white community and the bigger schools?

Spot on, I'd say it sounds more South African, of course not the deep Afrikaner English accent, but the more neutral one.

He would have grown up very close to the white community and went to the private schools. (Was the headboy of one of the private schools also)

Myers is either adopted into a white family (he has a white name) or has white relatives or is just simply culturally close to the white community. Private schoolboy who plays cricket. He doesn’t have a Shona vibe.
We have seen through cricket a few black players with the white accent or close to it. Tend to be wealthier ones.
Also Zimbabwe is known for having a high standard of education relative to most of Africa.

ive actually also felt a lot of white Zimbabweans speak very similarly to Australians.
Sean Ervine was one.

It’s just a Zim English-as-first-language accent really. I bet he speaks/spoke a lot more English than Shona growing up so he’s ended up with a more native English accent than a Shona sounding one. He’s very well educated and wealthy and that shows.
