2022 U19 World Cup Thread
Re: 2022 U19 World Cup Thread
21 year old Bangladesh opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy has scored 70 on the New Zealand tour. He was at the last U19 WC where he he scored a century in Bangladesh's six-wicket win against New Zealand in the second Super League semi-final of the tournament. He has less than a year of FC experience proving that Bangladesh seems to have no qualms about throwing their youngsters in the deep-end. Yeah I know the same can be said of Madhevere and co..but to be honest, ZC had no choice, the Taylor generation were facing retirement, the fringe players (Maruma, Chibhabha) remained fringe throughout their decade plus careers and the supposedly post-Taylor generation (Moor, Masakanda) didn't pan out as hoped for.
Maybe we really don't need to force these kids (the Bennets, mitchelton, chirwa etc) to play franchise cricket as a pre-requisite to play for the Chevrons, rather keep them together as an emerging Zimbabwe team that tours regional neighbours and plays against touring teams in warm-up matches and perhaps even in the pro50 AS A UNIT. Splitting the kids across the franchises could be bad idea, having them mix-and-mingle with "experienced players" domestically will lead to them picking up bad habits and acquiring the characteristic zimcricket losers mindset. Honestly, what can these kids learn from the likes of Mutumbami and Maruma that will benefit their careers?. This mentorship through franchise crickets works in nations like Australia where your franchise teammates will include top-ranked international batsmen/bowlers

Tadiwanashe Mwale bowled 1 over, 0-8. And out for a duck off 3 balls batting at number nine.
Dec Rugg bowled 3 overs, 0-22. And out for 3 off 25 balls batting at number ten.
The person responsible for allowing these 'non-travelling' reserves to purchase a place in the team today should be ashamed.
We basically played with nine men.

could this intrusion by these low-tier players (Mwale and Rugg) have messed up the morale of the team?. there's nothing more demoralising that being undeserving, untalented guys swooping in when you have a 3-0 lead, so they can "perform well" in the dead rubber matches and share the credit/praise with players that did the heavy liftingsecretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 11:46 pmTadiwanashe Mwale bowled 1 over, 0-8. I do agree with your sentiment generally, but tbh if we threw this U19 team as a unit into the Pro50 right now they would lose every single game comfortably against the 5 franchises, I'm sure. The step up from schools cricket to professional franchise cricket is massive. Yeah we have some ropey players in our system for sure, but the Logan/Pro50 standard is still much higher than people appreciate. The problem is that we often have 2 or 3 players in each team way way way below the required standard. But then we usually have say 8 or 9 guys who deserve to be there and are playing high quality stuff. If we could get more overseas players coming over more consistently and put an U19 or two into each side the standard could be really good. It's only the occasional greedy fucker that ruins our system by continuing to play despite being 35 and shit. And then theres a couple of nobodies playing at the moment who are selected in franchise by dubious means...Tinah09 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 11:40 pmMaybe we really don't need to force these kids (the Bennets, mitchelton, chirwa etc) to play franchise cricket as a pre-requisite to play for the Chevrons, rather keep them together as an emerging Zimbabwe team that tours regional neighbours and plays against touring teams in warm-up matches and perhaps even in the pro50 AS A UNIT. I'd say it's better to split them up and mandate 1 or 2 slots in the playing XI for U19 players. Otherwise they'd get trounced every week and soon lose interest and confidence plying as a unit.

There are good franchise players and ex players with knowledge. Blessing, Williams, Taylor, chatara, regis etc could teach the youngsters something. These players have played in county, PSL etc

Bangladesh had only one emerging tour at home that too against Ireland which was ended due to pandemic after few matches. Bangladesh under 19 kids have been performing in domestic cricket as a result they have been included in Playing XI after one or two season, in asian set up these things do happen. When an under 19 kid is in good shape in domestic cricket his form is utilized and given full confidence by including him in the national team Playing XI. Prithvi Shaw, Subhman Gill for India, Naseem Shah in Pakistan, Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis in Sri Lanka were tried for national team, few got success, few failed but the gamble is to be taken by the board. Young or Old Age can't be a barrier for international cricket if a talent is performing.
Zimbabwe had Brian Mudzinganyama playing debut test at 23+ but was never seen for another test, ZC is giving so many chances to 32+ proven failures why they didnt give Brian another chance looks surprising, decided his career with only one test and now his confidence have been shattered. Bangladesh team selectors could have dropped Joy for failing in his debut test against Pakistan, but they have persisted with him there you can find the difference between BCB & ZC in grooming young players.

Tests are a completely different ballgame. No comparison.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 8:46 pmNo. Outclassed them three times and they've outclassed us once.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:20 pmIts this sort of 4th game performance that negates the 3-0 series lead and causes one to feel the gap between ZIM and Ireland is virtually non-existent.
That's like saying if England win the next Test that 'negates the 3-0 series lead'Trying going into a bar in Sydney and telling some Aussies that. Good luck with that one
Let us know if you make it out with your jaw intact brudda.
Also, I'm not saying Ireland = Zimbabwe exactly. Just saying they are in the same boat on the same sea more or less.

They are flying to St Kitts later today I think. The WC itself it is likely going to be a strict bubble, so hopefully they can enjoy the last few days of freedom before then. Rare that a Zimbabwean team gets to tour somewhere nice like this these days. They can all look forward to a senior career of endless tours to the third-world and Ireland.
