If they are worried about a long tail and also having enough bowling options I would suggest this side for Sri Lanka
No 7, 9, 10 are guaranteed. Burl is out pinch-hitter. I would rather have a spinner at no. 8, swing that we are going to Sri Lanka who’ll undoubtedly set spin-friendly pitches. Mavuta used to be the prime candidate with his usefulness with the bat, but he’s fallen off. Ndhlovu probably needs more time..as for now, Ild pick Masuku
Unfortunately I think in our situation any domestic player who performs has to be given a chance. My main worry is that their paid so little.. maybe $300. The main thing that keeps them going mentally is cracking the national team. Without that possibility a lot of them would walk away when they turn maybe 26 or 27. For example I don't think a Kaitano keeps trying if the national team is reserved for a few people. It's the impossible situation we find ourselves in. At the end of the day the likes of Kaia and Maruma do add quality to the domestic setup. We can't lose them.
Not necessarily. If all they've ever done since kids is play cricket, and they have young families as lots of these guys do - it'd be brave to give that up. Not easy to find an alternative career or income. They are staying for the money, however small that is, and because they don't know how to do anything else.
You're right though, to an extent they do add to the domestic structure. I just don't think they should be in selection trials like this.
I like these Northern/Southern things though. Obviously change the names, because half of these guys aren't from the regions they are representing (Williams playing for the North! )
But we should play these select series, potentially across formats, every year. Try and bridge the gap slightly between franchise and international.

Remember getting club contracts in the UK, Maruma has been over nearly every year since 2015, Innocent Kaia has also been a regular as has Masusku and Munyonga probably earns them more money than playing domestic in Zim so the two incomes combined gives them a decent living in Zimbabwe.
