72 runs and 7 wickets so far for Wes. Surely 100 runs and 10 wickets in a match will be one of those rare stats. I hope he can pull it off

I'm in Harare today, hoping to get down to HSC for a beer later
Got there in time to see the last half hour or so of play. Pretty much the first ball I saw was Kunje getting out for 88. Unfortunately the Rhinos are very ordinary nowadays. Need to do some recruiting next season or they are going to stay bottom of the heap for the foreseeable.

The evergreen John Nyumbu was bowling, which is quite amazing as I first saw him play live at Queen's 18 years ago when I was just finishing school! A decent player over the years, but surely there’s someone younger in Bulawayo who deserves a chance now?

HSC is looking in good shape btw, and the liquid refreshment at the Centurion was as fine as ever.

Quite a lot of choice - Windhoek, Castle, plus all of the usual European stuff. Can't go wrong with a Zambezi though!

Nothing like a beer conversation whilst posting on cricket. Ah, for that mythical time the forum meets at the pub to solve cricket & world problems!

This anecdote may get lost in translation but it cracked me up at the time. Here in Oz, there is a comedian called MIck Molloy, a bloke in his mid fifties & a sporting tragic.
He hosts an irreverent sports program called The Front Bar. At the beginning of our cricket season he showed footage from 1978 of security stopping patrons entering the MCG for a days cricket. The rules were you could not bring any more than one case of beer (24 cans) per person per day.
Cue back to Molloy who has a gobsmacked look on his face & rues that he was born in the wrong era. An era of plastic cups & responsible service of alcohol.
Now I extrapolated this thought as I recall Doug Walters drank 50 cans on a 24 hour flight to England in 1972. Given you may have 8 hours sleep on the flight, that's 16 hours of drinking time, or just over 3 per hour. So the 1978 standard would allow 24 cans per person in a 7 hour day (6 hours play + lunch/tea.). Just over 3 per hour! This was the Australian standard!

Merv Hughes was also renowned for in-flight consumption
