Except Global qualifiers, all are can be could be series
Re: Future tour rumours
Mate it can still get a little ugly for some of the teams, esp if Afghans get a few more wins and Ireland pull off some surprise wins from their remaining 6 games.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:56 amThe problem is no team took the Super League very seriously, except for perhaps Bangladesh and given they are 2nd on the table, I'd expect them to not give a shit anymore either. Pakistan and NZ played an ODI series and the matches didn't count because the teams hadn't agreed to play day nighters or something asanine like that. Dumbest excuse given. Even dumber than ZIM and AFG series getting cancelled.
Now that the SL has been scrapped...look for more teams to just not give a F.
Thank god everyone takes the WTC seriously at least.
Re: Future tour rumours
But overall I agree with you. No one took it seriously. It was a good concept Implemented poorly which is why I'm not all that dissappointed to see it getting scrapped.
Except for Netherlands, no one else would lose anything significant. Ireland and Zimbabwe anyhow get a couple of series against Big guns in 4 years, and WSL gave nothing more than that anyways. Same for the Afghans. Rest of their series were against each other +SLN/Pak who anyhow play them more frequently.
Yes the Dutch would lose out on some fixtures but even they can reach out to more nations and arrange for a few homes fixtures each year in addition to playing the WCL2 and the normal qualifiers and T20 WCs. So it's not all that doom and gloom for them either.

You are well intentioned, but ultimately naive as to how international cricket and the politics and finances behind it work.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 6:02 pmYes the Dutch would lose out on some fixtures but even they can reach out to more nations and arrange for a few homes fixtures each year in addition to playing the WCL2 and the normal qualifiers and T20 WCs. The league was absolutely not perfect, but its cancellation is just about the single worst thing that could have happened for Netherlands, Ireland, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and the top ambitious associates.
Utterly disastrous for the Netherlands as an associate. For Zim/Ire/Afg, we will have to hope and pray that the ICC come up with a much much better FTP (and the required significant funding) instead, or else we are fucked.

Re: Future tour rumours
I think the WTC worked (with some shortcomings) fairly well because it was the only competition in the format. The Super League lost meaning because it was merely a qualifier for the World Cup and also perhaps with multiple T20 world cups sandwhiched in between.
But I feel like there has to be another competition in its place to determine who gets to play in the 14 team expanded WC.

Ireland are due to arrive in Zimbabwe on the 7th April. ODIs and T20Is.
Our Domestic season finishes on the 30th March with the T20 final. Will then be a training/selection camp going into the series. Nice to have some clarity on dates in advance for once.

I doubt it will be better as the new FTP will revert to member boards organising tours amongst themselves without ICC input. It will be a real test to see just how attractive other boards see Zimbabwe. I don't think it will be pretty.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 6:33 pmYou are well intentioned, but ultimately naive as to how international cricket and the politics and finances behind it work.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 6:02 pmYes the Dutch would lose out on some fixtures but even they can reach out to more nations and arrange for a few homes fixtures each year in addition to playing the WCL2 and the normal qualifiers and T20 WCs. Afghanistan will be the big winners from a new FTP. West Indies the losers. Zim will be lucky to get a single away fixture against a top 8 team.
Meanwhile the Australia tour hasn't been forgotten. Still should be happening around August/September
